To Boone and Todd families, Saturday's Homegoing Celebration for Dr. Carolyn Boone Todd showed how truly she was aunique, loving, and fully committed lady! Our friendship started over 50 years ago at Virginia State University (formerly Va State College) during our Freshman year. This bond was further strengthened as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. line sisters (Fall 1973). In addition, Dr. Boone's quest for knowledge,dedication, and total commitment was unwavering. Her strong advocacy for Education and always aiding where required were major characteristics of her life.

In her presence, one would experience significant love and compassion. I will miss our Homecoming activities with her (jovial attitude and always loving) – but very thankful God allowed me 3 joyous occasions to see her within the last year. Dr. Boone literally saved my life. I was born with a valve heart defect. My mother is a nurse and heard my heart murmur as a child but my first pediatrician blew off my mother's concerns. Then My mother was at the hair salon and just happened to sit down next to Dr. Boone and they struck a conversation. My mother brought me to see Dr. Boon when I was about 1 year old. She instantly heard my heart murmur and refereed us to a pediatric cardiologist, where I was diagnosed with pulmonary stenosis. I had surgery to correct the valve and have been doing fine since, 33 years later. Dr. Boone was an excellent and truly caring doctor. May she rest in peace.

I remember on one particular occasion, at the start of my shift, at St. Mary's Peds. Dr. Boone was on the unit making rounds on her patients. The residents were in the treatment room having a difficult time intubating a baby that was not Dr. Boone's patient. Dr. Boone heard all the commotion and, immediately stopped what she was doing went into the treatment room, she intubated the baby, started the I.V. and stabilized the baby, she saved that baby's life. I will always remember Dr. Boone for her kindness, beautiful smile, laughter, warm embrace and love for all. She was the BEST PEDIATRICIAN in Virginia. I will miss my dear friend. Well, it's been a little over a week since I found out about your passing. I found out the next day after you left this world. My heart just dropped because I couldn't fathom the thought of you gone. It took me this long to get my thoughts together. Dr. Boone, you were more than both of my daughter's pediatrician for 21 years. You were the epitome of an example of a dedicated, hard-working, caring, nurturing, and highly intelligent Black woman. A Black woman who loved and respected her community. A community of people that looked like her but may not have had access to the greatest resources at hand. Dr. Carolyn Jean Boone was that Greatest Resource. Dr. Boone took care of her patients as if they were her own children. She not only cared about the little ones, but the whole family. Dr. Boone would always ask, "How are you doing ,mama"? in her sweet and mild tone voice. And she remembered something that you liked or had going on and she would ask about that too. Dr. Boone loved to talk. She was not only professional but personable. I met Dr. Boone in 2003 after my oldest daughter ear surgery. After having setbacks with a former doctor, the Lord led me to you, and I stayed. Dr. Carolyn Jean Boone👑, you were truly a God sent. I am adamant that God is pleased with your life as we know it. For the love that you gave those babies for almost 50 years is astonishing! May you now receive more white pearls that you love. I know that I've let you know repeatedly how much you meant to me and my girls. I loved the look on your face when me and the girls surprised you with a birthday gift many years ago. What an amazing woman and physician! I have worked with Dr. Boone on and off for 30 years! She was always an advocate for her patients and never let them get away with not doing the right thing for their health! I always smiled when she was on the other side of the phone. I first met Dr.Boone as a Freshman Biology major at Va State College(at that time).

She was surrounded by a small group of Biology majors as she easily explained what our Professor tried to make difficult.

She then organized the precursor to our study group.

Carolyn was one of my Big SiQsters when we pledged the same Sorority. She would invent projects for me to get me away from my line so that I could study.

Carolyn was teased for being from a place called Zuni.

Dr Boone became my pediatrician after the birth of my first born child ,Paris, in 1988 . I learned so much from this woman! Paris loved going to her visits. She convinced me to write my first of 5 gospel plays " you just gotta believe " based on a conversation I had with Paris in her office! After my 2nd child Unique was born , Dr Boone showed up at the hospital immediately! She told me that this one gonna be " something else" !!! She was right! She had so much wisdom and knowledge to share. She knew Paris would question everything in life when she was 2! Once again she was right! I loved her ! She was my hero! She was a blessing to both myself and my girls. I am forever thankful and she will be missed .

Dr Carolyn Boone was my doctor as a kid and as I got older I visited her office a few times just to say hello and she always remembered me no matter how old I got lol. She was the absolute best doctor I had growing up as a kid and she was so caring with such a sweet, kind, loving spirit, she genuinely loved her patients and she took great care of me and I truly appreciate her great service she provided as a doctor. My condolences to the family. Dr. Boone was an amazing pediatrician to all three of my children. My family absolutely loved and adored her. I remember one year my son was sick and Dr. Boone was on vacation. I had to take him to the recommended doctor working in her place for the week. As you can imagine, we had to go back when she returned as the diagnosis was incorrect. She knew the problem, prescribed the medication and we were out of there. Knowledgeable, full of wisdom, genuine and passionate is who she was. Her little patients were all her babies. Dr. Boone you will truly be missed by your patients, family, the Community and the Whitted Family!

Dr. Boone has been the BEST pediatrician to my two children and now my 4 grandchildren. She would diagnose them, send to specialists as needed, and made sure that any illness they experienced was quickly taken care of. Dr. Boone has been a part of my family since 1992. She was the perfect doctor for both of my sons. Our last visit with her was 3 years ago when my youngest aged out. She was always caring and compassionate when it came to her patients. Dr. B you will truly be missed by our community.

My condolences to the family. Dr. Boone was an awesome woman & doctor to all. Even if you were an adult visiting with your child, she knew the answer to your symptom(s). I remember my mom took me to my appointment with Dr. Boone when I was younger and had been dealing with breathing issues & before you know Dr. Boone told my mom something's on her lungs...after all the so called test my mom actual doctor did...my mom took that information back to them & what do you know, Dr. Boone was right on it without any testing etc. being done by her. Her years of experience, knowledge and guidance was out of this world! Her light has shined all over the city of Richmond & now she will be a guardian angel to everyone she's ever came in contact with. I'm so thankful for the many years I've had the pleasure of coming to her as a child & continuing with my 2 kids!! News of her transition was not just a shock but was more like a kick in the gut.

Dr Boone was a true champion for our children and families. She fought hard for her patients and I am certain she laid a blessing upon every child her hands touched.

What I will remember most is the sparkle in her eyes when she gave her "cheeky" smile. I will remember the memories she shared about her being a foster child and how she worked/ fought hard to become a Doctor. I will remember the pride she emitted when she mentioned her family. I will remember the sound of her voice when she said to me, "....his skin looks good Mama" during one of my Son's well child visits when he was a baby about 16 years ago. LOL... she always found something to celebrate. Such a joyful soul. She will be sorely missed.

Dear grieving family,

I pray that you find peace soon. I hope that you know how much Dr. Boone meant to the masses. She made you proud in all that she did. Dr. Boone was not just my pediatrician but my children's pediatrician as well. As she walked down grace street for lunch one day she saw my mother at the bus stop with three busy fussy children. She noticed a rash on my brother's finger and immediately DEMANDED that my mother bring us to see her. From that day on she was our "aunt" who just so happened to be our pediatrician. I was about 4 at the time. Now at 39 I just saw her last month. She remembered to ask me about my mom, my siblings, my children's schooling and my daughter's freshman year at college. When she walked into the room to examine my special needs child the first thing she said to me was " why is my baby so black??!! Oh no, we need to check his cortisol" and sure enough he is being treated for Cushings disease. He was to follow up next month. The fact that she just saw him (after not seeing him for well over a year) and immediately knew his complexion was off and something was wrong was just her way! She will forever be missed, loved, and respected! I pray for your family and all of the families grieving this tremendous loss. As all of Richmond suffers this loss with you.

When my eldest was 5 years old and had taken ill while he and my mom was visiting someone at Henrico Doctors Hospital they rushed him to the ER and asked who is his physician they called Dr. Boone and before I knew it Dr. Boone had came to the ER to attend to him. That's when I knew she was something special. When I was in the office with my children she just made you feel welcome and special she loved to carry on a conversation with me and my children. When it was my youngest son last time visiting her because of his age he gave her a picture in a frame of me and my sons. I went to visit her 2 years ago she had that picture in her office. My mother didn't play about me or my health. When we moved from Philly, my mother relied on recommendations to find me a "seasoned " pediatrician that was black with an amazing bedside manner. Multiple people suggested Dr. Carolyn J. Boone. I was 10 years old. Dr. Boone's office was always alive with children's crying, playing and parents chatting. Your appointment time was of no concern so you planned accordingly and packed breakfast, lunch and sometimes a snack. The wait was long. But once Sharon called you back and handled preliminaries you knew Dr. Boone soon come. She was going to ask about your entire family, treat you like family and always greet you with a smile. (And her laugh!) She KNEW her patients. By name. She had thousands. Today, I learned that the BEST to ever do it, went on to be with the LORD. She cared for me and my girls. My heart is hurting. Dr. Boone has been in my life for 31 years. She was the Pediatrician to all of my children. If it wasn't for her, my oldest daughter may not be here because she had pneumonia and was placed on the unit and not in the ICU and she came and raised the roof off the hospital and within minutes my daughter and I were on the ICU unit. Not only did she take care of my children, but she took care of me as their mom because she would council me with my own problems and she was my grandson Pediatrician. My children are heart broke and I don't know what we are going to do because my grandson was to see her soon. This has certainly put a whole in our hearts. To her family, I am so sorry for your loss. I love Dr. Boone as though she was my blood family but sometimes you have more love for those that aren't blood related. I'm going to miss her terribly. We just saw her last week on a Televisit with my grandson. She would say to me how you doing momma and my daughter Ms. Lady🥲 This hurts, it really hurts. But God said to be absent from the body is to be present with him and I know you are with him because you certainly was an Angel. Love you forever Dr. Boone ❤️❤️❤️❤️
