Obituary For Arthur Lee Washington

Surely, you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

Arthur was a great man. He never met a stranger and was affectionately known by his grandchildren and many others as “GG”. He reminded us that “I’m Arthur” whenever he was faced with a challenge.

In the early morning hours on May 8, 2023, after a short illness, Arthur peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home above. He was born May 6, 1934 in Hahira, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents Ira Washington and Maggie Wright Washington. His devoted wife Willie Mae and loving son Alexander Washington were both called to their heavenly home before him. He was preceded in death by seven siblings: Ira James Washington, Nathaniel Washington, John Washington, George Washington, Martha Inman, Lillie Mae Jones, and Georgia Bell Washington.

Arthur was educated in the Lowndes County School System. He bravely served in the U.S. Air Force, after receiving an honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to build a life doing what he loved; farming and working outdoors. He met and married his late wife Willie Mae, during this loving union five children were born and raised. Arthur was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he served many faithful years as Chairman of the Deacon board. He leaves to cherish his loving memories two siblings: Mattie Washington and Ozell (Clementine) Washington of Hahira, Ga. Seven children Tammy (Eddie) Gosier of Hahira Ga. Stephanie (Vince) Black of Bonaire Ga. Jennifer Washington of Hahira Ga. Dexter Washington (Kimberly) of Cumming Ga. Obeatrice Simmons (Tommy) of Valdosta, Ga. Debra Washington-Bradley of Macon, Ga. Eight grandchildren Zachary Gosier, Courtne Washington, Micah Lightsey, Trinady Washington, Jayden Washington, Zoei Gosier, Ta’ Liyah Washington, and Landon Washington; a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-laws, and host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Home Going service for Mr. Arthur Lee Washington will be held on Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 A. M. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Hahira, Ga.,Pastor Marcus Haynes is the pastor and will officiate. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
