Summerville SC
Mrs. Idella Graham Seabrook, 80 of Summerville, South Carolina, transitioned to be with Our Lord In Saviour on Friday, February 26, 2021.
Idella (affectionately known as Newt) was born on September 17,1940 in New Zion, SC to the late Heyward Graham and Marie Brand Graham. Idella attended Walker Gamble High School in Clarendon County, SC where she received her high school diploma. After high school, Idella relocated to Philadelphia and then to New York City where she met and fell in love with Samuel Mark Seabrook. On June 19, 1964 Idella and Sam were united in holy matrimony. Idella was a strong, hard-working, and an ambitious young woman. While taking care of her family as a wife, mother, and a Nurse’s Aide she decided to attend New York City Community College and The New School, NYC to pursue a life-long career in Nursing. Whereupon she received her LPN and Registered Nursing Degrees. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and The New York State Health Department for Hospitals. She relocated to Summerville, SC on June 29, 1984 after living in New York City for several years. In Summerville she continued to work as a RN at Medical University of Charleston (MUSC), Roper Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital prior to retiring as a nurse after 50 years.
Idella gave her life to the Lord at an early age and she was an active member of both Bethel Tabernacle AME Brooklyn, NY and St. John AME Kingstree, SC. Also, Idella pursued ministry education at Allen University in Columbia, SC. She loved her church families. She served on many church auxiliaries and participated in many church activities & events until she could no longer serve.
Idella enjoyed…talking to her family and friends. Family meant the world to her. She was always there to lend a helping hand to others. She truly was a “Florence Nightingale” by taking care of family, friends, and others while giving them support when and wherever they need it. Idella also had a love for animals, she had several pets throughout her lifetime. Idella is preceded in death by her husband Samuel Mark Seabrook, father: Heyward Graham, mother: Marie Brand Graham, her sisters:( Baby Girl) Graham, Lettie Gamble, Mary Pearl Graham, Rebecca Gamble, and her brothers: Heyward Arthur Graham. Leroy Graham, Curtis Graham.
Idella is survived by her daughter: Debra Seabrook-Butler (Larry), two sons: Eric Seabrook (Lataniya) and Kendrick Seabrook (Christina), stepdaughter: Diane Poles, sisters: Allie M. Graham and Deloris Wheeler, brother/cousin: John Jay Burgess (Marge), sister-in-law: Alena Graham, Eva Seabrook, and Helen Seabrook-Wilson, brother-in-law: David Seabrook (Mary) grandsons: Jelani, Simeon (Carlene), Jayden, Kristen, and Kavon, granddaughters: Emerald (Kareem), Ashley (Royse), Khloe, and Karman; great-granddaughters: Destinee (Oliver) and Brielle, great-grandson: Royse Jr; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
