Hallie F. McCray, son of the late Mack McCray, Sr. and Hazzetter Fullwood- McCray was born September 24, 1934 in Sumter County. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Ella McCray-Marbin, Emma James-Goodman, Olivia McCray-Davis and five brothers: William McCray, Leroy McCray, Bennie McCray, Mack McCray, Jr. and Ollie J. McCray.
In his early years, he received his formal education at Asbury Primary School in the Shiloh Community and graduated from Johnson High School in Timmonsville, South Carolina.. After high school, he graduated from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina and received his Bachelor's Degree in Education.
He joined Asbury United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, South Carolina.
Hallie had a great passion for farming and cooking. He also loved spending time with his family. Hallie F. McCray departed his earthly life on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Marie McCray of the home; two daughters, Stacey McCray-Richardson of the home and Vanessa McCray of Sumter, SC; two granddaughters, Savannah Rose Richardson and Mallorie Marie Richardson; a special niece, Claudia (Frank) Gaines of Bryn Mawr, PA; one sister-in-law, the late Eloise Witherspoon; two brothers-in-law, Lucius (Margaret) Webster of Boston, MA and John (Lucille) Webster of Sumter, SC; caregiver, Ralph Dickey of Lynchburg, SC; and a host of additional nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing was held Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 4:00PM til 6:00PM at the Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, SC.
Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the McCray Family Cemetery.
The family received friends at the residence.
