Elect Lady Eleanor Burno Stukes, affectionately known as “MaMa”, was born May 28, 1946 in the Davis Crossroad Community of Clarendon County to the late Jake and Janie Lemon Burno. Lady Stukes received her formal education at Jordan Elementary School and was a 1967 graduate of Manning Training School in Manning, South Carolina. She furthered her education at F. E. Dubose Career Center to become a Nursing Assistant.
“MaMa” was known as a very loving and sweet lady who welcomed everyone with open arms. She was the epitome of motherly love and compassion. She had a passion for softball and played short stop position while employed at Sunbeam Plant. She was also employed at Federal Mogul and later retired to pastor full time. In her later years, she would often practice playing baseball and basketball with her grandson, Jair.
CELEBRATION OF HER FAITH
Lady Stukes accepted Yahveh as her personal Savior and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in the Jordan Community in her younger years and moved her membership to Mount Sinai Fire Baptized Holiness Church. She learned about the Seventh Day Sabbath at Temple BethʹEl. She was uniquely gifted by Yahveh to up build His Kingdom and was blessed with the outpouring of His Holy Spirit. After which, she began to work faithfully and diligently in her local ministry under various leaders. In 1981, she was ordained Evangelist and Pastor of the House of God in Manning, South Carolina by the late Chief Apostle S. P. Rawlings. She was appointed Elect Lady in 1987, as a result of being a virtuous woman and exemplifying the standards and values of Yahveh’s word. She was one of the most influential pastors, mentors, and a powerful vessel of Yahveh.
CELEBRATION OF HER FAMILY
On March 30, 1974, she was joined in holy matrimony to George Allen Stukes, of the Sugar Hill Community in Manning, South Carolina. This union was blessed with three sons and one daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a special aunt, Corrine “Honey” Saunders and her siblings: Mattie Robinson, James Burno, Sue Esther Thompson, Dorothy Witherspoon, Joseph Burno and Frank Bruno.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories and legacy of love: her husband, George A. Stukes, Manning, SC; four children: Jerome A. Stukes, The Republic of Tanzania, Africa, Dathan R. Stukes, Columbia, SC, Deborah R. Swanigan, Manning, SC and Samuel M. (Serrena) Stukes, Atlanta, GA; one adopted son, Joshua Doughty, Mount Vernon, NY; one brother, General Lee Burno, Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Joan Burno, Manning, SC; two sisters-in-love, Hester Brogdon, Jacksonville, FL and Jane Bruno, Summerville, SC; a granddaughter reared as her own, Nyayana Johnson, Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren: Donovan, Jalen, Sarai, Jevon, Zyleah, Mickela, TʹAndre, Dathan II, Lyric, Jahʹel, Simeon, Trenton, Jasmine, MarQuez, AyʹLasia, Jerni, Jair, Tannor, SaʹMena, Kairae and Ezra; one great grandson, Kalen; a special cousin who she loved as a brother, Clyde Mack, Manning, SC; special children she reared as her own, Daniel Brown, New Haven, CT and Sharee Burno, Chicago, IL; her spiriual mother, Elect Lady Mary Campbell, Beaufort, SC; two god daughters, Denise (Stanley) Thomas, Philadelphia, PA and Eleanor (Andre) Muir, Columbia, SC; a host of treasured nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
CELEBRATION OF HER TRANSITION
“MaMa” was “Enroute to a city, not made by man’s hands” for seventy-five years. On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Yahweh called her home from labor to reward at MUSC Health University Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina. She stood on her faith and trusted the word of Yahweh until the very end.
Funeral services for Pastor Stukes were held 11:00 AM Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple, Manning, SC. Burial followed in the Clarendon Memorial Garden, Manning, SC
The family received friends at her residence, 119 West Huggins St., Manning, SC and at the home of her daughter, Dedorah Swanigan, 518 W. Huggins Street, Manning, SC.

To my family from Clorene P. Cantey, I was sadden to hear of the passing of cousin Eleanor. She was a wonderful, loving, and caring person. She displayed a bright smile whenever you saw her. She was a very spirit filled person who we will greatly miss. To George and the entire family, my prayer is for God to send His comforting angel to comfort you during these times of grief.
