Obituary For Tommy Ross

Tommy Lee Ross, affectionately known as Tom, was born on July 22, 1935, to the late Annie Lee Carter-Bridges and Bennie Ross of Memphis, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Quincy McKee and Richard Young.

At a young age, Tommy confessed a hope in Christ and often studied God’s word. In his younger years, he enjoyed listening to music on his reel-to-reel tape player, playing pool and entertaining with family and friends. Tommy was a Master Barber and part owner of T&J’s Den Barber Shop for twenty-eight years; he retired more than ten years ago. He had a huge heart and loved giving to his family, his alma mater Booker T. Washington High School, St. Jude Hospital, American Heart Association, and countless other charities.

Tommy’s happiest times were when he spent time with his family, which he loved dearly, as he’d often drive twelve hours to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and to Indianola, Mississippi, to visit. He loved conversing with the old and young, empowering them about the history of our people.

Tommy went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 28, 2021. Mourning our loss yet rejoicing in his life are: three loving sons, Tommy L. Ross Jr., Tony Lucas of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Ira Lyons; one loving daughter, whom he lived with for over the past five years, Chana Brittmon; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and a lot of friends.

A public viewing is scheduled for Friday May 14, from 4 pm until 6 pm at R. S. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home, 2944 Walnut Grove Rd. Graveside services will be held Saturday May 15, 11 am at Memorial Park Southwoods, 5485 Hacks Cross Rd.
