Sammie Lamar Robinson, 71, was called home on September 6, 2023. Born February 3, 1952, Sammie was reared in a God-loving home in Memphis, TN. It was while attending Southside High School that he met the love of his life, Ann Carmen Terrell. They accepted Christ together and were both saved in 1969. On May 6, 1972, as husband and wife, they brought into this world two beautiful sons, Tony Dewayne and Thomas Rashaad. In 1972, Sammie enlisted and began his career in the United States Navy. From their first assignment in Kingsville, TX, Ann and Sammie were inseparable. They were only apart during Sammie's deployments which took him to Alaska, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Sammie served this nation with honor and distinction before retiring in 1997 as Chief Warrant Officer-4, after seeing action in both Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. It was with a grateful heart that his loving wife, Ann, welcomed him home, uninjured. Sammie loved his family above all else and opened his home to all five of his grandchildren at various points in their lives. Being in the presence of family brought Sammie incredible joy. This joy radiated throughout his interactions. His lightheartedness brought laughter and happiness to everyone around him. Sammie also received fulfillment from his spiritual life and was a longtime member of Pentecostal Temple Institutional Church of God in Christ where he loaned his rich singing voice to the male chorus and served on Usher Board #2. Strong, dependable, considerate, fun loving, and generous were only a few of his outstanding attributes. In addition to his devoted wife, Ann, two sons Tony (Deborah) Robinson of Palm Bay, FL and Thomas (Chiquita) Robinson of Atlanta, GA, he had five grandchildren and four great grandchildren who remain to cherish his life, love, and legacy.
Sammie's life will be celebrated with a visitation Friday, September 15, 2023 from 10:00am-11:55am with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon both will be held at Pentecostal COGIC 229 S Danny Thomas Blvd, Memphis, TN 38126
Interment will be immediately following the services in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125
