Bobbie Jean Davis, born May 25, 1950, to the late Merriweather and Alberta Davis in Memphis, Tennessee. She began her journey in the Orange Mound neighborhood, with her four older siblings; she was the fifth of nine siblings. Later, the family would move to the Walker Homes neighborhood. There, she attended Miss Sarah Robinson’s Childcare Center, before heading to Ford Road Elementary. Bobbie often talked about her days growing up on Flynn Road, reminiscing about the fun times had with her siblings.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Walker Memorial Christian Church, where she looked forward to Sunday School classes and Sunday morning church services with her family.
Growing up Bobbie, also affectionately called Jean by many, displayed many talents such as, seamstress (she made many of her school outfits) and a skilled hairstylist, to name a few.
Bobbie was a vivacious teen and made friends easily. She attended Mitchell High School where she was a member of Y-teens and Mitchell High's Tiger Majorettes Squad. She loved going on trips with the band, talent shows, sock hops and attending the football and basketball games. She was a proud member of Mitchell High Class of '69.
Right after high school she gained a coveted position with Kellogg’s Company. She was one of the hardest working ladies on earth, often working 12–16-hour shifts, days on end. She dedicated 45 years of service to Kellogg’s, retiring in 2015.
In August 1972 she married John A. White, and to this union, three beautiful children were born: Kevin, Keeynan and Keeva.
In the early ‘80s Bobbie and her mother went on to join Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, pastored by the late Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr. She would later join Bountiful Blessings Church of God in Christ, pastored by Bishop Milton R. Hawkins.
Bobbie adored her family and many times hosted family gatherings and holidays in her home. She was a gifted home decorator, cook extraordinaire, and immaculate housekeeper.
One thing everyone knew about Bobbie was that she had a passion for fashion and LOVED to shop, something she picked up from her mother who was her regular shopping buddy. You never caught her on a bad day, and Sundays were her days to shine in her bedazzled suits and COGIC hats. She would be dressed to the nines.
If you were ever looking for Bobbie there were four of her favorite places you were most likely to find her: Church, Kellogg’s, TJ Maxx or Marshalls.
Bobbie was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother: Mary Fort, Anne Marie (Anna), Vonsheila, and Darryl Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Kevin L. White and Keeynan L. White, both of Memphis, TN; one daughter, Keeva L. (Eddie) Carey of Chicago, IL; three granddaughters, Kayla White of Memphis, TN, Nailah Joyner and Kya White of Dallas, TX; one grandson, Greyson Carey of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Annette Davis and Frenita Thompson of Memphis, TN; two brothers, Merriwether (Rona) Davis of Atlanta, GA and Charles Davis of Memphis, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
