Obituary For Mae Edwards

Mae Frances Herron entered this life on October 20, 1950, in Coldwater, Mississippi, to the marriage of the late James & Hazel Herron.

Mae was raised by her daddy's sister and her husband, the late Farris & Mary Marvin. They were a loving family couple who embraced her as their own. Though she was raised by a loving family couple, her birth parents remained an integral part of her life, proving that family bonds can extend beyond blood. Both sets of parents’ extraordinary love and care played an integral role in her life, and their influence was part of the beautiful tapestry of her story.

Mae received her formal education in the Memphis City Schools where she graduated from Carver High School in 1968. Mae accepted Christ & was baptized at Shady Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Wardell Johnson.

Mae led a life filled with love, resilience, and the beautiful bonds of family. She became a Godmother in her early twenties.

Mae was married twice, a testament to her resilience and capacity for love. Her first marriage, to the late John H. Foster, brought her the joys of motherhood of two precious girls.

Mae was married a second time to the late John Edwards Jr. Then, she also birthed a baby boy into their union. In addition to her own children, she became a loving presence in the lives of her husband’s two boys, extending her maternal warmth and care to each of them.

Mae embraced her role as a devoted homemaker with open arms. She cultivated a haven of love, laughter, and comfort in the family home she tirelessly cared for in both marriages. She was a remarkable woman whose life was marked by unwavering devotion to her loved ones.

Mae’s home was more than just a place; it was the heartbeat of her family, extended family, and close friends. The weekends were filled with joy, games, delicious cooking, uproarious laughter, cherished holidays, and the sweet strains of music. It was a haven of love and togetherness.

On Saturday, October fourteenth, God took Mae to Himself. She traveled to the shores Jesus promised to prepare for His saints.

Mae was preceded in death by her birth son, John Wyle Edwards III; Mothers, Hazel Herron and Mary Marvin; her Fathers, James Herron and Farris Marvin; five brothers, Charles Herron, James Herron Jr., Robert Herron, Jerry Herron and Stevie Herron, and a sister-in-love, Georgia Herron.

Mae leaves to carry on her legacy; two daughters, Tasha Foster Malone and Tamika Foster Jordan; one son-in-love, Marcus Jordan Sr.; two grandsons, Ve’dal Foster and Marcus Jordan Jr.; two granddaughters, Chyna Malone and MaKena Jordan; seven great-grandchildren, Gabriel Foster, Ishmael Foster, Ezekiel Foster, Nimue Foster, Kayomi Malone, Siya Tate, and Giovanni Malone; two sons by marriage, Ronald Edwards and Cornelius Edwards; and goddaughter, Debra “Goldie” Ellis.

Mae also leaves three brothers, Macon Herron of Mississippi, Larry Herron of Memphis, and Rogers Herron of Indiana; two sisters, Emma Sledge of Indiana and Maxine Sandidge of Memphis; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends to cherish her memories.

Though she is no longer with us in person, Mae will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace and may her legacy of love and devotion be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 27, 2023 from 6:30pm-8:00pm at RS Lewis & Sons 2944 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38111. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 10:00am at St Paul Baptist Church 2124 E Holmes Rd, Memphis, TN 38116

Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, 824 S Dudley St, Memphis, TN 38104
