Mr. James Murles Smith, Jr., was born May 16, 1955, to Nedra Ettress Smith and the late James Murles Smith, Sr. He was affectionately called “Scooter” and had a love for motorcycles and music.
James accepted Christ at an early age at Middle Baptist Church-Whitehaven under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Lester Baskin.
James graduated from Fairley High School, Class of 1973, and attended Tennessee State University and Rust College. While attending Rust College, he met Elma L. Edwards. Following their courtship, they were married, and their union was blessed with two children, Carmen Elise Smith and Jamye Michelle Smith.
He lived many years in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, before returning home to Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. James M. Smith leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Nedra Smith; one brother, Phillip D. Smith, Sr.; one sister, Tracy S. Hines (Torrance); two daughters, Carmen Smith and Jamye Smith; grandson, Jackson M. Smith; son, James Murles Smith, III; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends for a graveside service Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11:00am in Calvary Cemetery.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, 1663 Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis, TN 38106
