A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Connie Lee Brandon, was born July ,1 1949, and passed away on October 12, 2023, with her family by her side in Memphis, TN. Connie was raised by her father, the late James Rush Soward, and grandmother, the late Lessie Nash, upon the passing of her mother, the late Laura Thompson, 18 months after she and her twin sister, Willie, were born. Born and raised in Ripley, Tennessee, she graduated from Lauderdale High School in 1967. She soon started a family and began raising her children, leading with love and compassion. Connie was a hard worker, dedicating her life to her family and career. She retired from Memphis City Schools as an educator. She served at several schools in the city, most recently the esteemed John P. Freeman Optional School. Her love for her colleagues and students was evident as she beamed with joy when sharing stories from her work day. Connie also enjoyed working for the U.S. Postal Service where she practiced her love for numbers and the complexity of memorization through address ranges and delivery routes. Her faith in Christ guided her in the relationships she maintained, and it influenced how she lived her life. She enjoyed attending her local church, as well as the churches of her family members when she visited outside of Memphis. A devoted mother and grandmother, Connie loved to cook and bake for her family and spend quality time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching westerns, crime shows, and being a helpful neighbor whenever and however she possibly could. Connie will be remembered for her kind heart, sense of humor, and her love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We will never forget the love, joy and laughter Connie brought to our lives and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
