To the Nix Family and friends and scholarly colleagues, I am reminded of the scripture, As iron sharpens iron, so does a friend. In the pursuit of happiness God sends us a comforter, His Son, may God bless you all and may you continue the legacy of the Late Echol Lee Nix Jr. Who was scholar, a friend, but most of all, God's chosen. I met Dr. Nix, Jr. In the 5th grade and his love and respect for me never wavered. It didn't matter if my clothes were old or my hair nappy, he treated me like a sister. From Southlawn Elementary to GW CARVER H.S and beyond making our trek to Georgia and the Carolinas. I would be the turtle of the bunch. Please accept my sincere condolences for if I could snatch him back I would but I am not God. John Lennon has a song titled the Good die young. I learned belatedly of Dr. Echol Nix's passing. Echol was a classmate at BU, and I admired him deeply for his combination of theological scholarship with vocational clarity. On first meeting him, you could just tell that he was going to make (and was already making) a great impact in the lives of others. He was remarkably self-possessed and was thereby an inspiration to consider the existential import of one's own academic work. I'm so sorry for the loss to his family, friends, students, and colleagues. I hope they continue to be comforted in these times. Thomas D. Carroll

I have known Echol since the 2nd grade and he was one of my oldest and dearest friends,
He was one of the best of us. Humble, Loving, and Christ like. He loved Jehovah and was inspired by Christ and worked to live by his example. His loving family with their well spoken words during his home going are a fitting testament to him.

My favorite memory of dear Dr. Nix is of the consistency in which he would alway weave his love of his daughter, his pride in being a Morehouse man, and the ancestral wisdom of Benjamin Mays or Martin Luther King Jr. into any conversationand with his signature smile.
Prayers for his family and loved ones. He was a bright light who will not dim with the news of his passing or with the marching of time. That light will glow with each mention of his name further strengthening his legacy as a teacher, a scholar, and a dad.
His voice was true.
