Obituary
Dorothy Asberry Dixon embraced life with joy and vigor that belied her 82 years. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, sister and friend. A pillar of strength in life’s most challenging moments and a faithful servant of the Lord until the end. She lived her life out loud, and it spoke volumes about the power of love, faith, and commitment. Her loving voice was stilled on January 20, 2024.
Born on May 7, 1941 in Montgomery, Ala., she confessed Christ at a young age at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy’s formative years were spent as a student at Booker T. Washington where she attended elementary, junior high, and high school. Her industriousness opened doors of opportunity for her including employment as a clerk with the Alabama Department of Labor (formerly known as the Department of Industrial Relations) where she served with distinction for 25 years before retiring.
Dorothy served as an Inspector with the Montgomery County Election Center. A sister-friend to many, she was a committed member of the Golden Divas II Savings & Birthday Club since 2016. Dorothy was also very active with Loveless Senior Citizens and traveled around the country as well as abroad with the other members.
She was a faithful member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church family until her death and made an indelible impact through her service. She currently served on the Public and Community Relations Committee and participated in the Adult Sunday School Class. She had past service to the Trustee Board, the Church Program Committee, the Benevolent Committee, Assistant Crusaders’ Advisor, the Pastor’s Secretary, Senior Alive Program Participant (SAP), and the Cuisine Ministry. She was deeply committed to improving young people and served as the Assistant Youth Director for 23 years. Dorothy was recognized for 50-plus years of dedicated service to Shiloh and was the oldest female member who grew up in the church.
