Obituary For Mother Cora Lee (Biggs) McLeod

Mother Cora Lee (Biggs) McLeod transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 3 at 6:49 am peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 23, 1927 to Charlie and Lucinda (Clausell) Biggs in Tunnel Springs, Alabama. Mother McLeod graduated from Monroe County Training School (now J. F. Shields) in 1949 and during her junior and senior year was a member of the school’s basketball team. During her childhood and into adulthood, she was a member of Amity Baptist Church in Peterman, Alabama. In 1952, she married the late Wesley B. McLeod.

Mother McLeod accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Church of God Pentecostal in Moss Point, Mississippi where she received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Bishop Floyd Langer. She was a faithful member and later worshiped at the Lighthouse Church of the Apostolic Faith.

Mother McLeod is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lucinda (Clausell) Biggs; her siblings Addie Biggs, Lucy McIntyre, Flora Biggs, Sallie Agnew, Bessie Lee Franklin, Jane Biggs, Maudie Thompson, John Biggs, Moses Biggs, and Irvin Biggs; her husband, Wesley B. McLeod; and her son, Oscar B. McLeod.

Mother McLeod leaves to cherish her memories to four children: Wesley C. McLeod of Meridian, MS, William C. McLeod (Cheryl), Cydchrissia M. Bradford (Elder Sherwood, Sr.) of Moss Point, MS and Dr. Cynthia M. Kamasa-Quashie (Agbevanu) of Conyers, GA. She leaves memories to her grandchildren: Shandra Carter, Kevin Triplett, Brandon Millender, Ashley Wells, Cymone Bradford, Sherwood Bradford Jr, Dzigbordi Kamasa-Quashie, and Jabari McLeod; great-grandchildren: JaTaurus Carter, Anthony Carter, Zy’Cheria Williams, Kieler Triplett, Raygen Ragsdale, Bryo’Na Austin, Brielle Spurlock, and Gioanna Millender. She also leaves behind one goddaughter, Yvette Moore and two sisters-in-law, Carrie Biggs of Monroeville, AL and Atlean Biggs of Peterman, AL. Devoted caregivers were Shirley Crear and Betty J. James and a devoted family friend, Elder Vanessa F. Crear; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

To know Mother McLeod was to know how much she loved the Lord only to be exemplified in her roles as faithful church member, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of wisdom to all. In her home, she cultivated an atmosphere of love, peace, and tranquility that was felt by anyone who entered. In church, she shifted the atmosphere by her very entrance when she ushered in the presence of the Lord. “Enter into his gates with Thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalms 100:4-5. Mother McLeod was small in stature but a powerhouse as a woman of integrity and standards. She was quiet and stern but always pleasant as she greeted everyone with a smile and warm encouraging words.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church, 5918 Martin Luther King Blvd in Moss Point, MS at 10:00 am. Services will begin promptly at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest Friday, Feb. 10 at the Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi, MS at 1:30 pm.
