Johnathan Carroll
Jonathan Carroll age 83 of Montgomery, Alabama peacefully departed this earthly life for his eternal home on March 4, 2020 with his devoted son, Michael by his side. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Revelation Baptist Church, Dr. Allen J. Sims, Officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Cemetery. Public viewing and Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 12-8pm from Phillips-Riley Funeral Home.
Mr. Carroll was born September 29, 1936, he lived a full and happy life and acknowledged Jesus Christ as his personal savior being baptized on February 3, 2002 at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church. After being baptized at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church also served on the usher board and was faithful to support his church home. Jonathan Carroll graduated from Carver High School in Dothan, AL, he received his Bachelors from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, and his Masters of Science from The University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL. Mr. Carroll as he was known to students, co-workers, and clients, spent over 30 years in the Elmore County Public School system teaching high school students classes such as Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics. He loved the sciences and science fiction as well as math. Mr. Carroll poured into the lives of countless students that have very fond and funny memories of him, also going on to teach many of his past students’ children as well. Jonathan Carroll also worked in the state prison system as an instructor, still using his gift of teaching to help those incarcerated continue to pursue their education. Jonathan was affectionately known as Joe to his closest friends and neighbors, Carroll and Papa Carroll to extended family, and of course Mr. Carroll to his many students and clients. Although known by different names his ability to serve and respect people from all walks of life, and his humor were character traits that will keep his memory alive in the earth. Jonathan Carroll started preparing taxes part time while teaching school which turned into a full time small business known as Carroll's Income Tax Service. Mr. Carroll serviced hundreds of clients well into his eighties. Jonathan Carroll was preceded in death by his wife Lillia Wagner Carroll and parents Joseph and Cora Lee McKay Carroll. He is remembered with love and joy by his children Michael(Lisa) Carroll, Montgomery, AL; Brenda(Andre) Lucy, Mobile, AL; Michelle Carroll, Montgomery, AL; Demetre Kimbrough, Prattville, AL; Maria(Lamar) Powell, McDonough, Georgia. His grandchildren Jamichael Carroll, Josiah Lucy, Christine Lucy, Christopher Carroll, Jeremiah Lucy, Joshua Alexander Carroll, Joshua David Lucy, Ariana Mahone ,Darius (Angela) Kimbrough, Leah Kimbrough(Roderick) Carroll, Christian Kimbrough, Zathan (Ashley)Powell, Dominique(Timothy) Proby, Tramell Powell. Great grandchildren Cameron Carroll, Imoni Carroll, JaKhi Carroll, Lilli Carroll, Zathan Powell II, and Ari Kimbrough; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jonathan Carroll's loving and generous spirit will be deeply missed, but will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He gave freely to those who had a need and many times asked nothing in return. Jonathan Carroll was an exceptional father and grandfather and his legacy will be carried on throughout his family.

I just learned of Mr. Carroll's passing and was saddened to hear the news, I took Chemistry and Physics from him and learned so much. He was one of my favorite teachers at Stanhope Elmore and I have so many fond memories of him. Reading his obituary, I see that he lived a rich full life and was loved by so many. Mr. Carroll was well respected at Stanhope Elmore High School. He was a mentor to our young black men who allowed him to show them how to be respectful and productive citizens. Rest in Heaven Mr. Carroll. Doris Zeigler- Class of 1976.
