Obituary For Wayne Jackson

Wayne Jackson was born July 5, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York; the first son and second child born to the union of the late Harmon “Sonny” Jackson, Sr., and Christine Dixon Jackson on July 5, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York.

Wayne grew up and attended school in Brooklyn, New York; attending P.S. 182, I.S. 292 and graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1978. Wayne’s passions were many with his best subjects being French and Art. Wayne loved basketball, handball, dancing (Doing the Hustle), playing spades and working with his hands which gave him his greatest gifts and career as a cook and working with cars.

Leaving Brooklyn behind and moving to High Point, Wayne met and fell in love with the late Valerie Bridges and was blessed with his bonus children Shanna and Bruce Mobley, who will miss him greatly along with his three bonus grandchildren: Deserae, Dre and Amir. Wayne’s life changed with Valerie’s passing on April 4, 2013.

Wayne was blessed with a second partner when he met Giles Shirley, whom he wed in Boone, NC on Oct 17, 2017. Giles brought to this union two children, Isaiah and Zayviona Shirley, who loves (Jackson) as they called him, as much as he loved them and will miss him along with his wife Giles.

Also left to cherish his life and his memory are his mother Christine Jackson, four brothers, Michael Jackson (Emi)-Japan; Harmon Jackson, Jr. (Sonya)-Delaware; Zachary Jackson (Denise)-Delaware; Timothy Jackson (Dena)-New Jersey; five sisters, Cheryl Jackson-New York, Michelle Bennett-North Carolina, Tanya Hill-North Carolina; Sheila Denis (Destin) North Carolina/Florida, Stacey Jackson-New York; four aunts, four uncles, one great aunt, Jennie Sanders and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
