Thurman Alonza Pinnix was the second son and the fourth of four children born to the late Roger William Pinnix and Venis Ballard Pinnix. Thurman was a gentle giant, calm, easy going, affectionate, uncomplicated, loved by all, but was not to be underestimated.
At an early age Thurman accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, united with the family at First Baptist Church and was baptized. After graduation from T. Wingate Andrews High School in 1979, Thurman attended DeVry Institute-Atlanta, GA, where he studied Electronics. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a Nuclear Ordinance Technician with top secret security clearance.
After returning home from service Thurman joined Guy Turner Rigging and Moving Engineers. During his 27-year career he served in many areas before being promoted to the position of Project Manager. This position often tasked him with some of the company’s most difficult assignments using his skill in many disciplines.
As an innovator Thurman was led to satisfy his desire to explore, invent, develop, and design. He acquired and used his skill in Electronics, Sound/lightning, and music production, (mastering multiple musical instruments during his lifetime). He was a self-taught Master Chef known for many culinary innovations having catered many events and functions throughout the triad area.
Thurman was founder and owner of Innovative Concepts and Arms, LLC a company that evolved from his Sound and Lighting Company that he operated for over 25 years. He also was the proud owner and operator of TAPP (Thurman A Pinnix Photography) a talent he was very passionate about. He loved to capture great moments in the lives of people with a unique and special clarity. Thurman was an avid Harley Davidson Rider and a member of several clubs.
Thurman was called to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at his residence and was preceded in death by his parents, Roger W. and Venis Ballard Pinnix.
Thurman Alonza Pinnix is survived by his son, Daniel Webster Pinnix and will be greatly missed by his sisters, Valerie Pinnix of Greensboro, NC and Martha Pinnix of Thomasville, NC and his brothers, Roger C. Pinnix (Gloria) of Douglasville, GA, Garland Pinnix of High Point, NC and “like a brother” Steve Waden; new granddaughter, Nichole Aubrey Pinnix; uncle, Thurman Ballard (Yvonne) of Omaha Nebraska; great uncle, Robert Taylor (Ernestine) Tarboro, NC; nieces, Tenisha Stewart (Myron), Audrey Pinnix, Ashley Pinnix; great-nieces, Janiah Rorie, Jayden Stewart and Jordyn Stewart; great nephew ,Braylon Walker; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the home, 3522 Running Cedar Trail starting on January 6, 2022 going forward, from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
