MSG (RET) Marshall Maurice Lowery was born to Emma Jean Lowery on November 1, 1967, in High Point, NC. He departed this earthly life on Friday, November 5, 2021, at his residence.
Marshall was educated in the public schools of Guilford County and was a graduate of T. Wingate Andrews High School. He enlisted in the United States Army as part of the original 1-87 Infantry cohort with the famed 10th Mountain Division in 1987. Marshall served multiple combat tours post 9-11 in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star Medal among numerous other awards. He served his country honorably until his retirement in January 2016.
After retiring from the military, Marshall was a founding board member of Infidel Inc., a veteran nonprofit. Marshall’s focus was on stopping veteran suicide, something he devoted most of his waking hours to. He is well remembered among the veteran community as someone who spent hours talking and listening to fellow veterans, and someone who had a profound sense of humor. He was a genuine and kind man, loved by all who knew him. His absence has left a huge hole in the veteran community. He will be forever missed.
Marshall leaves forever lasting memories to his loving mother, Emma Jean Lowery, of Guilford Health Care Center in Greensboro, NC; a very special childhood friend, Caroline Marshall Steele and her sisters, Gwyn Phillips, and Mary Royal; his beloved, faithful & fiercely loyal companion Service Dog, Brutus; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Interment will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

Marshall, you served our country honorably and I am so very proud of you. I've heard and read so many glowing accolades! My heart filled with pride after meeting some of your friends and military family. You were genuinely loved, and that makes me so happy. Rest In Peace, dear cousin. I'll continue to take really good care of your Mom. With Love and Pride, Sharon
My Beloved Cousin, I'm going to really miss you. The military stories that were left untold. I look forward to hearing them someday from your Army Buds. Thank you for allowing me to be included in taking care of your Mom (Aunt Jeanie). I'm reminded of how you believed in the higher power which is God. I know I will never understand what you were going through but I could see how it was taking a toll on your body. Rest In Peace cousin until we meet again. Love Cousin Yvonne & Garland Simrel Family
You were a good man Marshall.
Brother I can't begin to thank you for all the zero Dark thirty phone calls and conversations on rough nights, that laughter and kinship saved my life more than once. Till Valhalla!
Marshall was my Brother and always will be. I will deeply miss the visits from Him and Brutus! Hitting up the local family restaurant for Biscuits and Gravy lol. Brutus getting our leftovers. I will also deeply miss our late night early morning hours long phone calls shooting the crap and telling stories. He left a hole that can't be filled. Marshall was a good man with a huge heart! He was always there if someone needed him! I love you Brother and we will meet again.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends and everyone who knew him.
I first met Marshall Lowery in 1990 as he was a corporal at 1st Battalion 87th infantry Regiment in Fort drum New York. For the most part he was quiet and kept to himself, but he had a sense of humor that he would display every now and then. My most memorable moment of Marshall was how everybody talked about how good of a wrestler he was, I myself was a wrestler as well and I always thought to myself well maybe we can wrestle someday. We came head to head on several occasions (all for fun) but never locked up until two years later when we went on a deployment in North Carolina to train and we ended up wrestling. A memorable moment I will never forget. My sincere condolences to the family. 11 Bravo for life, rest easy cohort🙏🏼.
I was always happy to say Marshall was my brother. I'll miss our talks around the 22nd of the month. There is a new Warrior at the big table, Till Valhalla brother.
