Ms. Doretha Jones Spencer was born on July 9, 1967, to the late Willie Mack Jones, Sr., and Dorothy Cherry Jones in Ahoskie, NC. Doretha’s formative years were in Eure, NC. She was educated in the Gates County Public School system. After high school, Doretha received her cosmetology license from Leon’s Beauty School in Greensboro, NC. Later on, she received an associate degree in medical assisting from ECPI University in 2012. She was employed at Qorvo, Inc. and Great Clips Salon in Greensboro, NC at the time of her transition.
Growing up in a pastor’s home, Doretha gave her life to Christ at an early age. God gifted Doretha with a voice to sing, with which she honored Him in worshipping and praising Him in songs. While in her father’s home, Doretha was a faithful choir leader in his church for many years. In her adult years, she consistently served as a member of the praise team and choir member at her home church. Throughout her life, she stayed connected to the Lord through prayer, reading the word, and worship.
On Sunday, June 18, 2023, the Lord decided to reward Doretha for her labor and called her to heavenly rest. Although she is gone physically, we will fondly remember how she loved God, her two daughters, and her two grandsons. She also enjoyed music and dancing, nature, and the outdoors, staying active, and traveling. Most of all, Doretha loved planning special events to bring her family and friends together.
In addition to her parents, Doretha was preceded in death by her sister, Trenette Jones Sykes, her niece, Chartonya Faison, and her grandson, Devante Dozier, Jr.
Doretha leaves to cherish her memories: her two loving daughters, D’atra Chevonne Spencer of Randleman, NC, and Gloria Shekinah Spencer of Greensboro, NC; her two grandsons, Bryson Lamar Spencer of Randleman, NC, and Amir Jaiden Spencer of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Shirley J. Jennings (Calvin) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Tisha J. Perkins (Christopher) of Garner, NC; four brothers, Willie Jones, Jr. and George Jones both of Murfreesboro, NC, Samuel Jones (Regina) of Asheboro, NC, and Shikish Jones (Stacy) of Murfreesboro, NC; brother-in-law, Wallace Sykes of Eure, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

My sincere sympathy to Doretha's family and many friends. I met her at Smart Style in Siler City. I enjoyed many conversations and laughs with her. I am so glad that memories never die. Blessings to each of you.
Doretha was my baby..I was the first sibling she saw when she came home from the hospital..I was only ten when she arrived, but I remember being sooo "happy". I had another sister who I would get to influence and watch grow up. For a while she thought I was her mother because I spent so much time loving on her..I have so many valuable memories of her..I taught her the word "responsibility" and I am so grateful to God that she lived a responsible life giving her all and Serving God faithfully until her death. She was "my baby" Shirley and Calvin Jennings
