Samuel Berry, Jr. departed this life on July12, 2024. He was born on September 26, 1947, in Mooresville, NC, to the late Samuel Berry, Sr., and Lucy Gaston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Eugene Berry, Victor Lewis Berry, and Dale Spencer Dunlap.
He was of the Methodist faith. He graduated from Wiliam Penn High School with the class of 1965. After high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1971.
He then joined the High Point Fire Department and dedicated himself to serving the community. Seeking to further his education, he enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. His commitment to public ser vice continued as he joined the U.S. Postal Service, where he displayed dedication and integrity in his role as a mail handler until his well-deserved retirement in 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Saunders Berry; son, Samuel Bryan Berry; daughter, Lanya Michelle Hunter (Wayne) of Knightdale, NC; grandchildren, Bayle, chase of Knighdale, NC; Dantae, Jasmine and Brianna; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Renotti Hollen Qames), Eula Laverne McLaurinand Hattie Berry of Char lotte, NC; brothers, Kimble Lee Dunlap and Kennry Berry of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Donieree Jones, Sar S. West (Michael) of Chesterfield, VA; brother-in-law, Ronald Lee Saunders (Aljuana) of Severn, MD, and other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Monday, July 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Berry may be viewed Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel
