Mrs. Rose Mary McMillan Odom was born February 11, 1944, in Bamberg, SC to Joshua and Nancy Smith McMillan. Rose peacefully transitioned from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 27, 2021. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, William McMillan, David McMillan, Coolidge McMillan, and Joshua Jr. McMillan; and one sister, Ola Mae McMillan Frazier.
Rose attended Bamberg County Schools and graduated from Richard Carroll High School in 1962. After high school, she attended Tuskegee Institute (University) in Tuskegee, AL.
Rose joined Temple Memorial Baptist Church in High Point, NC in 1974 and remained a tireless and devoted servant until her death. She served as chairwoman and member of the Deaconess Board, member of the church choir, president and member of Missionary Group #5, president and member of the Hospitality Committee and was known to run the kitchen with these three words, “Tap It Lightly”. Rose also assisted the Senior Citizen Ministry and organized numerous church trips throughout the years.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 53 years, Joe Allen Odom; daughters, Jonisse Odom-Ratley (Jerry) of High Point, NC, and Nancia Odom of Durham, NC; a granddaughter, Tamara Janae Washington of High Point, NC; two sisters, Florence McMillan Rivers of Tuskegee, AL, and Jasie Mae McMillan Kinard of Bamberg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, along with countless family members.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Memorial Baptist Church, 1458 Cedrow Drive. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Odom may be viewed on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
