Mrs. Patricia A. Cotton, 65, of High Point, NC passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at her home. She was born on August 13, 1957 to the late Lonzell “Zeke” McKiver, Sr. and Nora B. Matthews McKiver. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lonzell “Bobby” McKiver Jr., and a grandson, Colby Bethea.
Patricia affectionately known as “Pat” accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was a devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she worked faithfully on the Usher Board, and the Gospel Choir. One of her favorite things to do, was to read her bible and attend bible study. Pat’s favorite hobby was bowling and traveling to bowling tournaments. She loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels and Carolina Panthers. Patricia received her GED from GTCC and continued her education at Winston Salem State University where she received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development.
She was employed with Epes Logistics as a logistics specialist for 11 years until her health declined. Pat was loved deeply by her Epes family.
On February 24, 1996, Patricia married the love of her life, Gerald F. Cotton. It was a fairytale marriage that most people will never get to experience.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of the home; her sons, Derrick McKiver and Ricco McQueen of High Point, NC; six sisters, Ada Leggett, Betty (Arthur) Singletary, Mary McManus, Evang. Louise (Rev. Ulysses, Jr.) Welch, Nora “Betsy” Davis, Darlene “Annette” Ratchford all of High Point, NC; seven brothers, Samuel (Geraldine) McKiver, James McKiver, Abraham (Evang. Vickie) McKiver, Michael McKiver, Benjamin (Sally) McKiver, Kelly “Glenn” (Alisa) McKiver, and John “JT” McKiver; all of High Point, NC; three grandchildren, Jessica Billie, Destiny (Nick) Chadmon of Greensboro, NC and Derrick “Lil D” McKiver, Jr of High Point, NC; two great-grandchildren, Kayden Harrison and Kaliah Chambers; six sisters-in-law, Carla McKiver of Milwaukee, WI, Barbara Louise Blanding of Jamestown, NC, Evang. Barbara Ann (Edward) Carter of Thomasville, NC, Janice Ford of Washington, DC, Vern Nelson and Joyce “Faye” (Charles) Turner of High Point, NC; brother-in-law, Leroy Cotton, Jr. of High Point, NC; a special niece she considered a sister, Teresa Jackson; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. There will be no Public Viewing.
