Mrs. Margaret Irene Alston was born in Washington, DC on October 21, 1942, and raised in High Point, NC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Carson and Polly Alston. Margaret departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2024. Margaret passionately loved her family.
Margaret graduated from William Penn High School in 1962. She worked numerous jobs and eventually retired from Guilford County Schools. She was faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as President of the choir.
Margaret was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Jean Alston and Barbara Ann Alston, and her grandson, Derrick Byers.
Margaret was a dedicated mother and grandmother.
She will be remembered as a vibrant joyful spirit who brought warmth and laughter to everyone around her. Her love for children was boundless, and she had a natural gift for making people smile with her humor and charm. She enjoyed her life in full- whether it was a shopping trip, a new traveling adventure or simply spending time with loved ones. Always looking fabulous and embracing the fun wherever she went. She reminded us all to live life with style, grace and an opened heart.
She leaves to cherish her memories her brother, Carson Alston Jr. (Joy Alston), sister, Mattie Alston; three wonderful children, Jerry Byers Sr., Sandra Smoot (Alex Smoot) and Traci McCauley; four grandchildren, Timeka Donnell, Tiffany Smoot, Jeffery Smoot and Jerry Byers Jr. (Shaina Byers); six great grandchildren; a special friend, Melvin Eaves and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
