Mrs. Laura Eleanor Cobb Davis—affectionately known by many names, including Peach, Peachy, Grandma Peach, Aunt Laura, Aunt Peach, Lou, and Momma—peacefully entered eternal rest in her sleep on April 21, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Born on August 24, 1930, in Macclesfield, N.C., Laura was the daughter of Arthur and Annie Johnson Cobb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Smith Davis, and her siblings, Bennie, Charlie Jack, Fannie, Arthur Jr., Mary Jane, Annie Mae, Florence, Maggie, and Bessie.
In 1957, Laura and Don relocated to High Point, N.C., in search of greater opportunities. A dedicated wife and mother, Laura, first served as a homemaker before transitioning into the workforce once her children were school-aged. Over the years, she contributed her talents in several roles, including seamstress at Mr. Apparel, home health aide for the Guilford County Health Department, cashier at Kmart, and finally, cashier at Piedmont Natural Gas, where she remained until her retirement. Even in retirement, Laura continued to serve her community, volunteering for over 20 years at High Point Memorial Hospital (now High Point Regional Hospital), embodying compassion and care throughout her life.
A pillar of faith and service, Laura was a devoted member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 65 years. During her decades of membership, she held numerous roles, including Church Clerk, advisor to the Junior Choir, member of the Senior Choir and Missionary Circle, and was honored as The Mother of the Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and a guiding light for her family and community.
Laura’s legacy of love, resilience, and devotion lives on in the hearts of her five children: Vernard Davis of High Point, NC; Hartensia Davis-Bailey (Richard L. Bailey) of Winston-Salem, NC; Stacey Davis (Yolanda) of Powder Springs, GA; Tracy Davis (Diane) of Mebane, NC; and Kay Davis-Porter (Kevin Porter) of Jamestown, NC; she is also lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law, Sam Davis (Sharron) of Rocky Mount, NC; sister-in-law, Mary Davis (Curtis Davis/deceased) of St. Louis, MO; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends also mourn her passing, including her devoted niece, Grinda Barnes of High Point, NC.
Laura's strength, kindness, and unwavering faith touched every life she encountered. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly through the generations she nurtured and inspired.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Guilford Memorial Park.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

Hello, Family!
What a Woman of God! What a Daughter! What a Sister! What a Wife! What a Mother! What a Grandmother! What an Aunt! What a Friend! What a Leader! Did I leave out anything? Mrs. Laura Cobb Davis was a Woman Personified! Mrs. Davis influenced us all with the Life she lived. I have known Mrs. Davis since Vernard, my classmate, and I started first grade at Boundary St. School.
Kay is my Sorority Sister (Delta Sigma Theta). I always told Dr. Chaz Truesdale (her grandson) that he looked like and acted like Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Davis attended my Retirement celebration in the park which made me know that I was always one of her favorites. WOW! I cannot stop when talking about Mrs. Laura Cobb Davis.
Thank you, Family, for always feeding us whenever Mr. and Mrs. Davis sponsored an event.
We also remember Mr. Don Davis, Mrs. Davis's husband, who was a great man. Rev. Green always speaks so highly of Mr. Davis .Mr. Davis and our big brother Jerome Johnson worked together for many years at Jiffy Manufacturing Co.
Well, Family, I have to say Goodbye for Now to another Mother that we Loved and will truly miss until we meet again on the other side.
God Bless All! Look up! Trust God to Comfort You and Keep You!
Rev., Dr. Bobby W. Green, Jr. and Dr. Gwendolyn Johnson-Green
