Kay "Mama Kay" Frances Sims MacDonald, 82, went to be with the Lord as she was surrounded by loved ones on December 23, 2023. Kay was born on June 10, 1941 in the Florence Community to the late Katherine Jackson Sims and Fate Sims. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Jean Spencer, and brother, Curtis Jackson.
Kay was a William Penn High School Class of 1959 alumna, retired from Sara Lee Hosiery Mill, and was an active member of Word of Life Tabernacle. In her earlier years, she enjoyed singing, going to the movies, eating seafood, working crossword puzzles and getting pretty at the nail salon. As a loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with and making meals for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called her Mama Kay.
Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her children, Renee McCoy-Young, Tonya MacDonald, and William “Billy” MacDonald (Victoria); her grandchildren, Robert “Rac” MacDonald, Whitney McCoy, Cory McCoy, Jonathan Ervin, William “LB” MacDonald, and Nehemiah MacDonald; fifteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Word of Life Tabernacle, 1801 Deep River Road. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The family will receive visitors at 1710 Oberlin Dr, High Point, NC 27260.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
