Mrs. Deborah Sarah Bundy Lindsay passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22 at her home in Kernersville, North Carolina. She was born on November 20, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Honorable James Lomax Bundy of Bluefield, West Virginia and Sarah Jane Cannon of Helena, South Carolina. Deborah attended Seton High School in Baltimore, MD. While attending Livingstone College, she met her husband, Craig Lindsay, who attended nearby Catawba College, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1978.
Deborah’s unconditional love in working with physically and intellectually disabled adults fueled her continued commitment as a member of the Direct Care Staff at Davidson County Mental Health in Lexington, NC for the 20 years and as the Developmental Disabilities Day Program Director for Therapeutic Alternative, Inc. in Lexington, NC for an additional 10 years.
As a member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church, she served in a wide range of roles over the course of the 35 years. These roles included: Sunday School Superintendent, Wednesday Night Bible School teacher, Director of Young Adults in Christian Ministries, Director of Acolytes, and Director of Christian Education, a role she held for over 20 years. During her later years, in addition to her cherished service at her local church, Deborah expanded her service as the Greensboro District Youth Director and organizer for the Food Pantry program at St. Stephen AME Zion Church.
Deborah loved traveling and meeting new people, gardening, the performing arts, and spending time with her two dogs, Toby and Little Bit. She was an amazing wife to Craig, and together they shared 45 years in matrimony. She was an exceptional mother to her children and grandchildren, and God-sent mother to so many others within the community, church, and schools. Her unwavering dedication to children’s education and development left a legacy of love, comfort, and purpose in every way possible.
Deborah is survived by: her husband, Craig Lindsay, Sr.; five sons, Craig Lindsay (Monique, Collin, Calvarie), Christopher Lindsay, Cameron Lindsay (Rochelle, Carter, Cali), Corin Lindsay (Meredith), Christian Lindsay; one daughter: Cecilia Grant (Frankie); two sisters, Jayme Bundy (Sy’Rae, Bryce Jr, Symphonie, Sydnie), Lona Gail Bundy (Brandon); one brother, Henry Bundy (Naomi, Verina, Jacquie), and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Stephen Metropolitan AME Zion Church. Interment will follow at Clifton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
As children, Deborah and I sang on the Tiny Tots and Youth Choir, under the direction of her mother, Mrs. Sarah Bundy, at the Pennsylvania AME Zion Church. I was able to keep contact with her briefly, but lost that communication. I also searched for Gail but was unsuccessful. My sincere condolences to her family. May God embrace them all with His loving comfort, and surround them with loving family and friends.
On behalf of the YACM Department of the Greensboro District we extend words of Condolences to this family....Rest in his arms warrior of CED!!! A red candle..symbolic of the common color in each CED department... Symbolic: the love you had for the work!

Deborah, spirit here on earth was one of calm, gentle, soft spoken, as a young mother at St. Stephen Church, she poured a foundation of God's love into all young children's hearts, souls and minds and won adults alike. This loving gift that she passed onward to her five children will live forever and grow into seeds of flowers beautiful loving and kind for generations to come. Deborah will always live because she built her foundation upon Gods "Grace and Mercy as His servant here on earth. I set and thank our God that allowed little old me, Helen Moore Roseboro to meet his Angel Deborah Sarah Bundy-Lindsay. Because I once read: building up the church means building up the people of God and this is Deborah life today, yesterday and tomorrow in Gods Heavenly kingdom she lives. Condolences and prayers in days to come. It is with a heavy heart that I say farewell to my co-laborer in the Department of Christian Education. (AME Zion) I will miss you sorely. Thanks for our mini talks and keeping me encouraged to continue to serve. To the Lindsay family I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
To the Lindsay Family...It was a Great pleasure to work side by side with Mrs. Lindsay. She knew what she wanted and how she wanted it..yet she respected others opinions and thoughts. She was a soldier for education on all levels and helped anyway she could..be it providing resources or steering you in the right direction. Through our church I had the opportunity to watch her family grow up! What a blessing they are. We will keep praying for all of you.
