Mrs. Bertha Mae McCain Goss better known as “Bert” was born to the late Edgar McCain and Annie Harshaw McCain on June 11, 1928 in Randolph County, NC. She completed this earthly journey on May 26, 2020 at her home in Asheboro, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis H. Goss and son, Edward L. McCain.
Early in her employment, she performed domestic duties for several families in the Randleman Community. She worked at Memories Laundry, Asheboro Dry Cleaners and Economy Dry Cleaners in Randleman. She later worked at Mr. Jeans in Randleman for a number of years, before establishing her own business, “Bertha Goss Daycare” for 15 years.
“Ms. Goss” as she was affectionately known, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her ministry included canning and cooking food until her health declined the last two years. She was known to give “goodies” from her kitchen to anyone who asked, didn’t ask and as she was led to give. Her desire was to serve others through cooking and giving of food and canned items. Mrs. Goss enjoyed tending to the flowers in her yard and plants inside the home. She believed in giving people their flowers while they lived.
Mrs. Goss loved the Harshaw Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Randleman, NC and the church family, where she served as a Deaconess, in the Ministries of Gospel Choir, Missionary, Hospitality, Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Teacher of the Sunday School Department and Pastor’s Aide President and member, but most of all she loved the Lord and believed in the effectual prayers of the righteous.
Cherishing her memory are sons, Dr. Dennis M. (Kathy) McCain of Tacoma, WA, Dwight M. McCain of Asheboro, NC; daughters, Wanda M. (Monroe) Gaines of Randleman, NC, Brenda C. Goss, Christine A. (Alex) Mungin and Lexa M. Goss all of Asheboro, NC; Mrs. Goss leaves her legacy to eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Goss helped raise and has been a mother figure to many others including nieces, nephews, and anyone with a need from the community.

I worked with Lewis Goss at Commonwealth Hosiery Mill in Randleman and he helped my family with our tobacco crop. I remember so well how he talked about his wonderful wife and family and how much he loved them. They were his top priority. My prayers and sympathy to you all in the loss of your mother . It sounds like she was everything Lewis said she was! May she Rest In Peace . She certainly deserves it. Phoebe Burkheart
Brenda, Wanda and Lexa we send our deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family on the transitioning of one of Randleman's greatest ambassadors for Jesus Christ. God has called a great soldier home because she has completed her pilgrimage journey. Our hope is that we too will complete our journey so that we can rejoice together with her when the Lord calls. There will be a void whenever I come to Randleman. She always treated me like a son when I came home. Our prayers are with you all. Curtis and Crystal Foxx Dale City, Va.
