With deep sadness and immense love, we bid farewell to Joseph Lee Henderson, who peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2025. He was born on October 11, 1963, in Whitakers, NC, in Edgecombe County. Joseph was the son of the late MB Edmonson, Jr. and Camilla Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Lyon Henderson, and grandmother, Ruby Edmonson.
Joseph attended Willow Grove School and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School. He later joined the United States Army and served for four years. Joe relocated to High Point, NC, where he met his wife, Barbara. They were married for 28 years and shared a love for traveling both near and far. Joe was a hardworking man who cherished his wife and children. He was a member of the High Point Deliverance Center/Greater International Deliverance Ministries, Inc., under the spiritual guidance of Apostle Frank and Arlina Smith, Apostle Dwayne and Pastor Patricia Simms.
In later years, he joined the New Hope Community Fellowship under the loving guidance of Pastor Lee Bynum in Archdale, NC. Joe loved worshipping and praising God, and his favorite song was Fix It, Jesus like you said you would. In January 2025, Joe's health began to decline despite the challenges he faced, he fought a good fight, displaying immense strength and resilience until the very end.
Joe was a warm-hearted person with a deep passion for cooking. He was always eager to make delicious meals for his friends and family. His love for horses was equally strong, and he took pride in owning several of them.
He was a member of both the Show Down Riders Horse Club and the Guilford County Knight Riders Horse Club, where he proudly held the title of Vice President. The Guilford Knight Riders Horse Club was unique because it focused on horseback riding while also sharing his passion for cooking and serving others. Among his fellow club members, Joe was affectionately known as "Big Joe." Whether he was leading a trail ride or preparing a delicious meal, Big Joe left a lasting impression on everyone he met. On quieter days, he cherished the moment spent with friends, enjoying a game of Spades.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Evangelist/Mother, Barbara Henderson; son, Denzel Henderson; daughter, Monika Henderson; granddaughter, Aniyah Henderson; sisters, Mary D. Henderson of Maryland, Delaine Rojas (Carlos) of New York, Regina Cooley of Washington, DC, Wendy Pittman (Avery) and Angela Davis both of Rocky Mount, NC; brothers, Richard Henderson (Rosa) of New Jersey, James Henderson of Washington, DC and Ronnell Edmonson of Rocky Mount, NC; he loved his aunts and uncles, particularly Bishop English and Rudolph Edmondson, who served as father figures in his life. A host of nephews, great nephews, nieces, great nieces, cousins, his McDonaldβs breakfast crew, his fellow horse club members, other family members, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at New Hope Community Fellowship Church, 10445 N. Main Street, Archdale, NC. Interment will be held Monday, March 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
