Our darling brother, James Arthur Cheek, “Par” as he was affectionately referred by family and friends was born in Montgomery County on February 11, 1945, to the late Fletcher and Rebecca Cheek; he departed this earthly life on June 20, 2023. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Cornell, Robert Mitchell, and Fredrick Lee Cheek; his best friend and caregiver, Michael Becote.
We gather here today to celebrate his life, the joy James brought to our family, and the pain his passing brings. In sharing the joy and the pain today, may we lessen the pain and clearly remember the joy he shared with us. James loved everybody. He never met any strangers. James had a favorite saying: "TAKE THE LORD WITH YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO." We would always hear James praying for the family and anyone else that would come to his mind.
At an early age, James faithfully attended Community Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Mannigoat in Jamestown, NC. Later in life, he attended True Standard Holiness Church with the Briley family under the leadership of Bishop James Sturdivant.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: four sisters, Gloria Becote of High Point, NC; Linda (Chester) Cooper of Crestview, Fl; Lisa Cheek of Archdale, NC and Kathy (Carl) Hagler of Jamestown, NC; one aunt, Beatrice Atkins of High Point, NC; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Cheek of Greensboro, NC; eight nieces, Tracey (Alfred) Wilkins, Deon Evans, Kimberly Cheek, Victoria Wallace, Temeka (Erick) Littlejohn, Tiffany (Chris) Gibson, Sherry (Kenyon) McGraw and Brianna of Portland, OR.; eight nephews, Cjay Cooper of Crestview, FL; Jordan Wallace of High Point, NC; Corey, Dorian, Trez, Nox, Cedric of New London, NC and Keith of Portland, OR; eight great nieces, six great nephews, four great-great nieces, and a host of cousins and friends.
We sincerely thank our extended families of fifty-plus years, The Samets and The Tucks. We also like to thank his caregiver, Leola Little, for her great love; he had a special love for the Moore family, the Briley family, Bishop Sturdivant, Lady Sturdivant, and the True Standard Holiness Church Family.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Juny 28, 2023 at1:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
