On April 8, 2023, Chris Allen Smith peacefully passed away at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on October 12, 1966, in Washington, DC, to his loving parents Jerone and Saundra Smith.
From a young age, Chris discovered his passion for language and an unwavering love for words. Despite his ambitious dream of becoming a renowned poet, his heart was captivated by the love of music.
Fondly known by endearing nicknames such as “Hamburger”, “Biscuit”, “Touche” or simply “Bud”. Chris proudly graduated from Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland as part of the Class of 1984.
Chris possessed an unwavering passion for cooking, ensuring that his family had home cooked meals. He had a special fondness for Maryland Blues and relied on his beloved daughter, Kaydence, to craft the perfect “sauce”. He left an incredible mark on the music world with his extraordinary talents. As a gifted keyboardist, he made his presence known through his performances with esteemed bands such as ALIAS (Artistically, Lyrically, Inspiring, All Souls) and Tru/Vizn. Chris was not only a skilled musician, but also a gifted lyricist and producer. He has a special love for jazz and delighted in sharing his original compositions as an independent artist in local music scenes.
Chris was a devoted husband, father and brother who cherished his time with family. He held a special place in his heart for his loved ones and found joy in their company. His warm and welcoming nature meant that he never met a stranger.
He held a deep reverence for his faith and was an active member of Monument of Praise. He took great pride in serving as an Usher, fulfilling his duties with devotion.
Chris was also employed at UNCG, where he brough his unique talents and dedication to his work.
Chris is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Saundra Smith, whose memory he cherished dearly. He also mourned the loss of his dear brother, Michael Smith.
His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife, Carletta Fairley Smith, who remained by his side. He also leaves behind four cherished children, Ayren Parker Smith, Lyrics Smith, Larelle Smith and Kaydence Smith; He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Asim Dicko, Samir Dicko and Zaire Dicko; father, Jerone Smith. In addition, he is survived by his four siblings, Jerome Smith, Karen Jones, Michelle Smith and Nia McLean Johnson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws who will deeply miss him.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Monument of Praise Ministries, 321 Oakview Road. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

This is Chris' wife Carletta Smith. I will never know the names of all of those that knew and loved Chris but I do come here and read the post. Today I decided to say a simple thank you for all the kind words and prayers. May God bless each of you. My husband was a very special man indeed. His memory and music will live on forever.
So sorry to hear about Chris, I didn't know him personally but I always talked to him at check out ( Food Lion) he always talked about his family. I am praying for the family strength I also wanted to share a positive scripture, Acts 24; 15 speaks of a resurrection of the good and the bad, at that time we will see our passed love ones.
Chris was great person I met when I was working at UNCG, he was always kind with a gentle heart.He always talked about his wife, daughter,and two sons. I was road dog, and he was dog pound on the job.God bless.Rhonda Goins
