Eva Joyce Massey, 85, of High Point, NC, departed this earthly dwelling and took her rest with the Lord on October 2, 2023. She was born in High Point, NC on November 8, 1937, to the late Charlie Massey and Annie Stewart Massey. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Denise Massey and Cynthia Massey; two brothers, Arthur Stewart and James Hope.
Eva attended William Penn High School, graduating with honors in the Class of 1956. She also received high recognition for singing in the school choir. Additionally, Eva spent a tremendous amount of time planning the William Penn Class of 1956 Reunion. She kept close relationships with all of her classmates, and she was the person who everyone depended on to keep the classmates connected and informed.
Eva loved people and lived her life working with the public. This was highlighted during her many years of working at K-Mart on North Main Street.
She was raised in First Emmanuel Baptist Church where her mother and father were founding members. She served on various missionary circles, the choir, the usher board, and in many activities at the church. She faithfully attended services throughout the majority of her life until her declining health. Eva was a woman full of love, life, and laughter. She made sure to let her light shine wherever she went. During the last five years of her life, she lost her mobility, but she never lost her faith in God. She kept running her spiritual race.
The family lives on with comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place, and that she is free from pain and sorrow.
Eva is survived by her children to cherish her memories, daughter, Deborah Hamilton (Gus) of Desoto, Texas; son, James Massey (Diane) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, Denise Crockran, Brian Crockran, Nina Massey, James Massey, Jr. of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dr. Alexus Hamilton of Puyallup, Washington and Olivia Hamilton of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a host of cousins and close family friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
We, The Massey Family, thank you all for your love, biggg hugs, support, kind words, gifts, flowers, and prayers. We so appreciate all my mom's friends and her 1956 classmates. Thank you all for everything.
We thank all of those who offered her a ride. When you were giving her a lift you were also lifting her spirits.
My mom asked for only a few things: her newspaper, a Pepsi, chocolates and chicken. We thank you, if you shared those. She, in turn, shared most of these with others.
We truly thank all at First Emmanuel Baptist Church and Rev. Ray Campbell. My mom's foundation started at this church, her beliefs were sustained because of the church, and the homegoing celebration Sunday was so special at the church.
My mom struggled for many years with her mobility. We know though now that she is running and shouting all over heaven. We, the family, are comforted in knowing she's in His loving arms and is singing her songs of praise.
We lastly, give praises to our God and for all of His goodness! We know it was He who was carrying her all along the way!!!
Lovingly,
The Massey Family
