Mr. William E. “Bill” Broadnax, 87, of Madison, NC died October 23, 2021. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Piedmont Convention Center of Christian Church (Christian View) in Wentworth, NC. A public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends from 12: 30 to 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial with Masonic Rites and Military Rites will be in Eden Gardens Cemetery, Eden, NC.
All CDC guidelines will be followed: face coverings and social distancing.
On Saturday evening, October 23, 2021, God called his faithful child home. William Edgar “Bill” Broadnax was born the sixth child of the late George Denny and Rosetta Bingham Broadnax on January 10, 1934 in Rockingham County.
He attended the local schools; Piney Fork and Wall Elementary and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in the Class of 1951 in Reidsville, NC. He was joined in holy matrimony to the former Margaret Lee Smith in 1953 and to their union four children was born.
In 1954 William entered the United States Army and spent two years in service, at that time after being out awhile he decided to return back to Military Duty in 1962 and served his country for 19 more years, until his retirement, October, 1980. His military service awards that were given: Good Conduct Medal, Sixth Award Army Occupation of Generally Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, US Army Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
He joined Little Bethlehem Christian Church at an early age. After many years of traveling around the world, William returned to Little Bethlehem and rededicated his life to Christ, serving as Deacon, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Church Chairman, Elder and Trustee. “Bro. Bill” was a member of Lone Star Lodge #33, G. Wesley Allen Reidsville Consistory #224 and a 32 Degree Mason of Reidsville, NC.
He was also preceded in death by his wife f 62 years, Margaret S. Broadnax, his children; Thomas Broadnax, Mary France Fultz and Faye Vernon, two brothers and three sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Son; William E. Broadnax, Jr. of St Helen, MI, Leon Broadnax of Madison, NC, Andre’ Broadnax (Virginia) of Madison, NC, George Vernon of Reidsville, NC, Mary Lee Vernon of Madison, NC, son-in-law; Larry Fultz of Madison, NC, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brothers; James R. Broadnax, Rev. Robert Broadnax (Vernie) both of Reidsville, NC, Jesse L. Broadnax of Raleigh, NC, sisters; Betty Brim and Patricia Foye of Reidsville, NC a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
