Wanda “Lou” Hairston, 73, of Walnut Cove, NC passed Sunday, June 19, 2022. THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING ON SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 2022. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Mary D. Perry Memorial Chapel at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC with the funeral service starting at 3:00 p.m. Interment will then follow in Fairview Cemetery, Walnut Cove, NC.

Wanda Booe Hairston was born in Stokes County on January 16, 1949, to the late Margaret Booe Robertson and George Johnson. She departed this life on June 19, 2022.

She attended public schools in Stokes County, where she graduated from London High School in 1967. Wanda held various jobs before retiring from RJ Reynolds of Stokes County. Wanda, better known as “Lou” or Grannie Lou”, was an expert gardener and cook. She loved being with her family, grandchildren, her community. She treated everyone with the upmost kindness. She was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board until her health declined. She was formerly married to Joe Hairston and this union 4 children was born. Infant CaShundra Hairston (deceased), Lashundra Goodwin of Winston Salem, NC, Corey Hairston and Scott Hairston (Evelyn) both of Walnut Cove, NC.

Wanda was also preceded in death by her brother, Terry Booe and sister, Gencie McRae.

She leaves to cherish her memories along with her surviving children: sister; Brenda Mullen of Richmond, VA, brothers; Bill Robertson of Walnut Cove, NC, Tyrone Robertson of Bronx, NY, a special friend; Herman Moore. Grandchildren; Kerstin Bell (Sam), Justin & Jordan Hairston, Eurique Hairston (Nicole), Maurika Artis (Carnice), Tia Wilson, Steven & Stephen Goodwin, DeAundra Ziglar, Courtney & Kayla Hairston, Kia Thompson, 14 great-grandchildren, special aunt, Diane Booe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
