Sarah Alice Chandler, 88 of Sokesdale, NC passed Sunday, March 31, 2024. Public viewing will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. ~ 7:30 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends at Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church, 9070 US #158, Stokesdale, NC on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. ~ 12 noon with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Sarah Alice Chandler, born May 13, 1935 to the late Deacon John & Mozelle Chandler of Stokesdale, NC. Unexpectedly she was called to rest from her labor on March 31, 2024 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
Sarah known as “Sister” - “Sarah Alice” became a member of the Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She served on the Pastor's Aid, Senior Choir, Mass Choir and the For Your Glory Women's Ministry.
Sarah completed her education at Lauglin High School in Summerfield, NC. She was known to make a mean pound cake, potato salad, dressing and the famous banana pudding. She loved to cook for her family and friends. She loved to see how her food brought joy and fulfillment to their life.
Sarah worked in the Stokesdale Elementary School Cafeteria for a short period of time. Most of her work in life was domestic worker where she served the following families; Thomas family, Cook family, Friddle family, Richardson family, Flynt family, Knight family, Schuler family, Fulp family and Marshall family. She spent many years with the Bowman family who were dear to her heart. She helped raise their children Stuart, Betsy and Kay who remain friends even now.
She was always willing to help her family and friends to do whatever she could. She was a strong, loving and patient woman who feared the Lord. She gathered her strength from the word of God which helped her to survive 88 years.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers; John Jr., Jerry, Leroy, Ross, Bobby, Earnest and two sisters; Dorothy Carroll and Frances Wilson. One daughter, Phyllis Chandler.
She leaves her cherished memory to her children; Tony Chandleer, Stuart Chandler both of Stokesdale, NC, her daughter, Valerie Person (Darryl) of Durham, NC. Four beautiful great grandchildren; Nailani, Atillah, Nathaniel and Alya. One bonus son, Samuel Blocker of High Point, NC, one bonus daughter, Angela Baynes of Greensboro, NC. Three special friends, Josephine Frazier, Barbara Martin & Edith Long. A host of loving nieces and nephews, other family, relatives and friends who were so dear to her heart.
