Obituary For Robert Mitchell Dodd

Robert Mitchell Dodd, Jr., 73, of Eden, NC passed December 8, 2022. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 p.m. -1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC with funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Ridgeview Cemetery, Eden, NC.

Robert Mitchell Dodd, Jr. departed this life on December 8, 2022, at W.G. Bill Hefner Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, NC. Robert was born on May 19, 1949, in Reidsville, NC to the late Robert Dodd, Sr. and Maude King Dodd. He attended Booker T. Washington High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1967. After high school, Robert proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps in 1968 during the Vietnam War. While in the military, he was recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.

Robert continued his studies at Rockingham Community College. He married Debra Jumper Dodd on December 19, 1970, and from this union their one daughter, Qena, was born.

Robert, affectionately called “Dodd” by those close to him, retired after 30 plus years at the Miller Brewing Company in Eden, NC. He was a skilled employee and wore many hats at Miller Brewing Company. Throughout the years, he enjoyed being on the softball team and meeting up weekly with friends in his bowling league. Robert had a way of making others feel comfortable in his presence and could light up a room with his smile and laughter. He was a generous and caring heart and loved to engage in conversation about sports, history, and music of all kinds. Nothing made him happier than spending unhurried time talking and reminiscing with family and friends. He was loyal to those he loved and was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.

He was a beacon of strength and an anchor for his family as a loving father, a nurturing grandfather, a devoted brother and brother-in-law.

Robert was also preceded in death by his wife, and two of his siblings: Edward H. Dodd and William E. Dodd. He is survived by; his daughter Mrs. Qena D. Jennings (Michael) as well as three grandchildren, Ryan Jennings, Kaden Jennings and Addison Jennings. Surviving are his two sisters; Patricia Williamson (Norman) and Maude Williams (Leo) and five brothers: Barry Dodd, Wayne Dodd (Ann), Donnell Dodd (Shelia), Orlando Dodd (Maria), and Maurice Dodd. He was a proud uncle to a host of nieces and nephews and loved spending time with his devoted companion and life partner of over 20 years, Ms. Zennie Glass.
