Raymond aka “Red” Lankvelt Hairston, 94 of Walnut Cove, NC passed Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Public viewing will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Rising Star Baptist Church, 915 Windmill St. Walnut Cove, NC. The funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
On Tuesday, February 11th, GOD sent an angel to take our loved one to heaven to be united with him and united with his wife, father, mother, sisters, brothers and friends who went on before him.
Raymond Lankvelt Hairston was born on March 29, 1930, in Stokes County, NC to the late John Thomas and Nettie Simmons Hairston. He was married to Daisy Ray Smith Hairston for 68 years. To their union two sons were born, Donald Hairston and Melvin Hairston.
He attended London High School. He left school early and began working for RJ Reynolds (Brook Cove). After working faithfully for many years, where he retired from his duties as an Operator. Raymond was known by many as “Red”. He was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church and attended faithfully until his health declined. He was also a member of the Red Rock Masonic Lodge #809, Walkertown, NC. Outside of his family, Red loved baseball and playing the guitar. Many remember Red for being the great pitcher for the Walnut Cove Tigers. Red also enjoyed hunting.
Red was preceded in death by two brothers: Claude Williams Hairston (Virginia), Angelin Junior Hairston (Linell), two sisters; Doray Gibson (Frank) and Thelma “Jean” Johnson (Claude). Left to cherish his wonderful memories: his two sons; Donald and Melvin, one granddaughter that he loved dearly; Shavonda Holloway (Calvin), two great granddaughters, Callie Holloway and Laila Holloway, a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
