Mary “Marylee” Thomas, 89 of Greensboro, NC (formerly of Eden, NC) passed Friday, April 11, 2025. The family will receive friends at Sunny Home Missionary Baptist Church, 11178 NC 770, Eden, NC from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025 with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hamlin Cemetery, Eden, NC.
On Friday, April 11, 2025 God called an angel home to be with him, Mary Lee Thomas. She departed this life at her home in Greensboro, NC after a lengthy illness. Mary Lee was born in Leaksville, NC (Rockingham County) on January 2, 1936 to the late Sarah Staples Millner and Ed Broadnax.
She attended school in Leaksville at Douglass High School while growing up in the home of her loving grandmother, Hattie Hampton Staples, along with her brother, Tony Staples and their uncle, William Staples. Later on he moved to Martinsville, VA with her uncle and aunt, Albert and Ruth Millner, graduating from Albert Harris High School in Martinsville, VA. Upon her relocation to Washington, DC she enrolled in college and was employed by the District of Columbia School System. After many years of service and upon her retirement se moved back to North Carolina to spend time with her son and other family members.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Othal Thomas, two sisters; Marinda Robertson and Ruth Hairston, five brothers; Tony Staples, James Millner, William Broadnax, Joe Millner and David Millner along with her stepfather, Johnson Millner.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son; David Thomas (Jacklyn) of Greensboro, NC, three grandchildren; Jorde Malloy, Jeniune Malloy and Hal Malloy. Three sisters; Emmaline Henbry,Crissie Pettie (Ronald) and Sarah Broadnax. Ten brothers; Herbert Broadnax (Albertha), Charles Broadnax (Madeline), Howard Broadnax (Dorothy), Bobby Broadnax (Regina), Pete Millner (Mary), Freddie Millner (Rivers), Elder Burdock Millner, George Millner, William Millner (Joyce) and Rev. Carl Millner (Loretta) along with many other family members, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
