Laura Williams, 88, of Madison, died July 29, 2021. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Mary D. Perry Memorial Chapel, Madison, NC.

Laura Pearl Williams of Madison, NC, and Cleveland OH, known to most as “La Pearl, Pearl or Momma”, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 29th, 2021, in Hospice Care of Rockingham County. She was a mother to many and loved by all. Laura was the first born of five children to Leroy Dixon and wife Myra Dixon on September 8th, 1932. She moved to Madison, NC from Brooksville, MS in the late 50’s and stated many times over the years how she fell in love with the community and thought it was a great place to raise a family. Early on, between being a 24/7 mom and making time for schooling, she earned a certification to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed by the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Madison for years. On her off days from the Nursing Home, she could be found in the community assisting the elderly and being a mother to anyone who was misbehaving. Her smile was contagious, and she never met a stranger. Laura was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her pride and love for her family was undeniable and her cooking; well let just say you could taste the care and love in everything she prepared, from her famous fried chicken to her many deserts. One of her many mottos was “if you don’t have anything good to say about someone, then just don’t say nothing at all”. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Dixon White, a brother, Leroy “Tammy” Dixon, a son, David Lee Buffington, and a daughter, Helen Louise Long.

She leaves to cherish her memories: children; Shirley Williams (Major), William Buffington (Faye), Rosie Brooks, Prophetess Brenda Roberts (Overseer Bobby), Charlie Brooks Jr., 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren sisters; Louise Dixon Oliver, Martha Dixon Cummings and a host of nieces, nephews’ other relatives and friends.
