Jessica Vianca Johnson affectionately known as “Jess” was born on October 23, 1985 to Betanya Hollingsworth and Larry Johnson in Pinehurst, NC. Jessica grew up as such a vibrant, energetic girl and was known as a “tomboy” because she loved to do everything the boys were doing including playing basketball, football and climbing trees. Jessica attended and graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 2003 and went on to move to Winston Salem, North Carolina to attend Winston Salem State University where in 2010 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education. Jess began her career as an EC Resource Teacher at Konnoak Elementary School and in 2014 she transitioned to be an EC Resource Teacher at The Downtown School in Winston Salem, NC. Jess had a passion for excellence in her career. She developed so many lifelong relationships with faculty, parents, and her beloved students over the years. Many to this day talk about how she carried herself with such professionalism, class, and grace. Jess absolutely loved her students and wanted them to excel in every area of their lives. Jess was an avid writer. She enjoyed journaling her vivid dreams, visions, and accomplishments. She wrote books about all three of her children chronicling their journey beginning from their birth. Jess accepted her Lord and savior Jesus Christ at the tender young age. Those that knew her in her early years recall many bible study sessions and time spent in praise and worship. In 2003, Jess became a member of Oak Springs Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Eric Gladney and Lady Charlene Gladney. Her desire was to fight to stay in the arena of faith and to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Jessica served in youth ministry and has had such an impact in the lives of so many young people. In 2006, a young man named Brian Pipkins began visiting her church and would begin to serve in youth ministry as well and little did they know that this was God ordained. On July 21, 2007, Jessica married the love of her life and their Kingdom journey together began. They were the true definition of co-laborers in the Lord. Their hearts desire was to see a young generation set free from the cares of this life and walking in their true identity in Christ. In 2013, Jess and Brian began volunteering at the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center where they would minister the gospel of Jesus Christ to teens who have been incarcerated. Through this ministry, they have seen hundreds of young people surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. In 2014, Jess and Brian transitioned and became members of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Michael Thomas and Sis. Michelle Thomas. Jess and Brian began to serve in the Evangelism Witnessing Ministry and continued to see souls saved and brought into the Kingdom on a regular basis. From their Godly union came the birth of their three amazing children. Brian Lamar Pipkins II who is affectionately known as “B2”, Isaiah Monroe Pipkins who is affectionately known as “Izzy” and their baby girl Zoe Vianca Pipkins. Jess absolutely adored her family and was intentional on spending quality time with her family. She loved to travel and expose her children to the world which as she put it is a main ingredient of education. Those she leaves to cherish her memory and continue in Faith: Brian Pipkins Sr. (husband), Brian Pipkins II (son), Isaiah Pipkins (son), Zoe (daughter), Betanya Hollingsworth (mother), Larry Johnson (father), David Wilkins (step-father), Priscilla Pipkins-Samuels (Lamar) mother-in-law, Ray Wynn (father-in-law), Tanisha Johnson (Darryl) sister, Courtney Wilkins (sister), Gabrielle Farrington(Elliott) sister, Jeremy Jeter (brother), Jermaine Glenn (brother), Andrew Johnson (brother), Presten Johnson (nephew), Lila Johnson (niece) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. Jess was a woman of integrity and developed an unshakeable faith as she continued to grow in grace and in the knowledge of her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Her legacy continues on!

I did not know this beautiful young woman but I wish that I had the opportunity to. She is such an inspiration and the life that she led really did speak for her. I know that she is in the presence of the Lord. May God comfort her husband, children and all her family. I will be praying for all of you.
Dear Brian and pipkins family, I just want to begin by saying Thank you ! Thank you for being such an inspiration in my life. I first met Jessica and Brian when I was attending Oak Springs back in the early 2000's. Oh what joy it was to have a younger generation of youth ministry. Ones who could relate to what we were going through in that time as they had not too long been through it themselves. They both taught me the importance of putting God first in any and everything that I did. To watch a true love story unfold of two induvial people who knew nothing of one another until Brian came to the church was absolutely beautiful. To see a real life example of how a man is supposed to value and treat a woman. How he put God first, how she put God first. you just knew the Lord had his hands all over the anointing of you two together. How they came together and lead the youth ministry was impeccable. from trips around the triad, to camps, youth revivals and that's just to name a few. They did it all for us (the youth) for our greatness. where we could still have a great time, but we also praised the Lord.. I know they say behind every good man is an amazing woman, but Brian and Jessica stood side by side. They were a true definition of love and that with God first anything is possible. Not only did I have leaders that spoke about the word, they lived it. They kept it real and let you know they're human and they understand. They weren't trying to be perfect, but they were perfect for our youth group. I thank God that I had the opportunity to meet such an amazing soul. God took Jess and molded her to change the lives of so many young people. Though her time on this earth wasnt long it was fulfilled. many blessings and strength to the family of Jessica, but to the husband who lost his wife, to the children who lost their mother! though we don't know why, may the Lord continue to bless you and be with you through this difficult time. Give you the peace that passes all understanding. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I know Jess is present with the lord and in that i find peace. with regards and much respect and love for you both -DeJana Ingram
I truly enjoyed working with Jess. She had a heart of gold and provided so much encouragement and support to others. She smiled alot and shared positivity with everyone. Jess and I would often discuss traveling and new experiences during our travels. We also discussed spiritual ideas and values and every conversation was positive and encouraging. Jess also showed a lot of support to my daughter by attending several of her dance performances. I will truly miss her and will continue to pray for her family and friends during this difficult time.
I knew Jess when I taught K/1. But when I retired and returned to DTS as the Reading Interventionist my cubicle was next to Jess' office. My personality is always on the go but Jess was so calm and laid back. She'd saunter-into my cubicle many times lifting her head to ask me "What's up?" Then she would randomly share so many different vignettes about her life, family, trials and experiences. Each story made me feel so special because she was choosing to share an intimate part of her being. I will treasure our past year together forever and our conversations are stored in a very special, quiet place in my heart. May God bless all of you as we grieve together.
I first met Jessica & Brian when little Brian was a baby, I had the honor of caring for him & his brother Isaiah. They were two of the best parents I ever met, always smiling & sharing their faith. One thing I will never forget is my husband & I were looking for a church to attend of course they told us to come visit, I asked if it would alright to come since I'm caucasian his words ( The God I serve doesn't see color) I was like praise the Lord someone feels like me God created all of us!! Such a great christian family! See you in heaven one day Jessica
