Deacon Jerry Chandler was a servant of Jesus Christ and was a faithful husband, loving father, and friend. He was a member of Oaks Springs Baptist Church all of his life and was instrumental in helping to build the current church building. He served in various ministries while at Oak Springs to include: choir, drama, usher, church announcer, Sunday School Teacher, and Deacon. He loved the Word of God and worshipping God and it was evident as you would often see him shedding tears of joy in the House of the Lord. This testimony remained constant and was clear that ¨God is Good¨. Through many adversities he remained steadfast, unmoveable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord. He was faithful to his community as the "local plummer¨ willing to serve those in need. He loved gardening and would share his harvest generously with his relatives, neighbors and friends. He was also the resident historian and loved researching and documenting church and family history and shared his knowledge to anyone who was interested. Also, anyone that knew him also knew his love for fishing! He loved sharing this pastime with his friends, children, and grandchildren. Not only did he like fishing but he was a fisher of men. He had an open door and open heart to anyone who needed love, encouragement, and wise counsel. He loved discipling many in the Word of God. Jerry Chandler was employed by Sears Roebuck, Inc.; Shell Oil Company, and Pine Hall Brick Company. He made driving a career and received many safe driving awards throughout his tenure. He was one of the first African American oil tank drivers for the Shell Oil Company in Greensboro, NC. He had a keen knowledge of reading maps, retaining road and highway information, and navigating interstates. One of his greatest joys was taking summer vacations, driving to see family and friends. Jerry Chandler has left a legacy of faith and love that will never be forgotten.
