Obituary For Jack “Taste” Thomas Hairston

Jack Thomas “Taste” Hairston, 83, of Eden, NC passed Saturday, February 10, 2024. Public viewing will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. The family will receive friends, Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC with service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hairston’s Cemetery, 174 Shady Grove Rd., Eden, NC.

Mr. Jack Thomas “Taste” Hairston, son of the late Harden Hairston, Sr. and the late Louise E. Hairston was born December 21, 1940 and departed his earthly life on February 10, 2024 at UNC Rockingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Eden, NC after a lengthy illness.

Jack attended school at Douglass High School, Eden, NC through the 11th grade. He worked as a construction and textile worker through the years. Jack was of the Baptist faith.

Jack had a love for golfing, fishing and having fun. He would tell us jokes and not ask him why he quit school because he would say – “I quit school because they had “Recess”. He was such a loving, caring and happy person, but do not get him wrong because he had let you know that he was not a “Pooh Pam.” When he saw us, he would say: Come here my little “Pluto’s.” If you were good with him, he would call you his “Ace Spoon Coon.” We thank God for allowing us to be with you all these years. You were our Hero.

He was also preceded in death by his son; Jasper Hairston, sisters; Dorothy Lane, Pauline Riley, Isabelle Williamson, Della Mae Pinnix, brothers; Harden Hairston, Jr., Clarence Hairston and Ralph Hairston.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his sister; Patricia Poe (William) of Alexandria, VA, brother; James Hairston (Elaine) of Rapid City, South Dakota. A very faithful servant & caregiver; his niece, Teresa Hairston of Eden, NC. Great niece; Temika Wilson of Greensboro, NC, a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews, family and friends. Special friends; Joe Singletary, Tommy Hairston and Matt Dorsey.
