Gwendolyn Mitchell , 76 of Pine Hall, NC passed Sunday, January 12, 2025. The family will receive friends Friday, January 24, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Withers Chapel Church, 2793 Pine Hall Rd., Walnut Cove, NC. The Homegoing Service will begin at 12 Noon with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Gwendolyn Hairston Mitchell, known as “Squeak”, was born to John Harry Hairston and Lena Virginia Hairston on June 16, 1948. On January 25, 2025, with her son by her side. Squeak departed this life with her Lord. With love from everyone's life she touched and touched hers in her heart.
Gwendolyn was a lifelong resident of Stokes County where she helped on the family farm raising tobacco. She graduated from London High School and later continued her education by attending Surry Community College in Dobson, NC and Winston Salem State University, Winston Salem, NC.
At an early age, Gwen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Withers Chapel Church, Belews Creek, NC where she had been an active member her entire walk with Christ. There she served on the Usher Board, Senior Choir (where she led many songs) and was the President of the Withers Chapel she was a great supporter of other churches - for that's how much she loved the Lord. She was also a member of the Christian Awareness Program and the Stokes County Chapter of the NAACP.
In Gwendolyn's crossing over she will be met with love from her parents, John Hairston and Lena Hairston,along with Trevor Hairston, Sterling Hairston, Carey Hairston and Lafayette Hairston.
She is survived by her son John Mitchell, sister, Jackie Hairston and brother Christopher Hairston. Two sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
