On Thursday evening, February 6, 2025, Emma Jean Harris departed this earthly life to live in eternal bliss with the Lord. Born on January 4, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Russell Nelson and Juanita Mae Rosser (nee Gregory). Born a native of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she attended schools there and worked at Lane Furniture Company through retirement.
She married the love of her life, Willard Harris, in 1953. They were happily married for 43 years upon him preceding her in death. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Gretna, VA under the leadership of Rev. Nathaniel Jones before making her home in Rockingham County after losing her husband. Emma accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior after moving to North Carolina and became a member of Chapel Hill Primitive Progressive Baptist Church.
Emma was a dedicated wife and aunt to her family and a valuable member of this community. Despite her feisty demeanor, Emma Jean had a heart of gold and kept everyone laughing with her quick wit and humor. She brought delight to all who had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know her. Emma Jean had a special place in her heart for her great-nephew, Ta’Ron Clark.
Emma warmed so many lives in her family and her presence will be sorely missed. In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Bernard, Lacy and James Rosser and two sisters: Mary Stevenson and Ella Moore.
