Dorcus Vestine Edwards Lowe, 83 of Madison, NC passed Saturday, August 3, 2024. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will received friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at New Light Refuge Temple, 2441 Bethany Road, Madison, NC with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Madison, NC.

God, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to transition from labor to reward, Dorcus Vestine Lowe (fondly known by her middel name) on August 3, 2024 at the age of 83 while surrounded by loved ones at her daughter's home in Lawrenceville, GA. She was born on December 29, 1940 to the late Granger and Rachel Edwards in Madison, North Carolina and was the fifth of ten siblings.

Vestine attended Charles Drew High School in Madison, NC. She met and later married Henry T. Lowe, Sr. on November 29, 1958 and had two daughters and three sons.

As a means of aiding in the financial support of her growing family, Vestine first began employment at the Dry Cleaners and Laundry in Madison, NC followed bhy the Plant Nursery in Summerfield, NC and Madison Throwing Company in Madison, NC. With aspirations of increasing her marketability in the workplace and higher wages, coupled with her insatiable desire to learn and exceptional academis history, she pursued formal training and education at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, NC in the area of bookkeeping, typing and data entry resulting in her obtaining employment at Sears Roebuck and Company in Greensboro, NC as a data entry specialist (key punch operator) for a number of years prior to securing a secretarial positon at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, NC, until her retirement.

Vestine was a phenomenal woman in so many ways throughout her entire life. She was reliable, dependable, trustworthy and respoinsible in all she did. As a young girl, she became a helpmate for her mother by caring for her younger siblings while her mother worked and was often referred to by them as their second mother.

Vestine was a devoted mother who did everything she could to care for her family. She worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure thaqt every need was not met but exceeded. While maintaining full time employment, she helped with planting and harvesting tobacco on the family farm; growing and harvestinga garden with a large variety of fruits and vegetables; canned and froze harvested foods to last throughout the year; made preserved from fruit she picked from orchards and fields; sewed household items and clothing for herself and her children and managed household expenses. Sh was a very conscientious spendcer and a good steward of the family finances and could make a penny go along way. Wastefulness was out of the question in her household.

Vestine was a devout Christian. At an age, she attended New Light Refuge Temple Way of the Cross Church and became a member in her early adulthood where she served diligently under the leadership of Elder Harrison Twyman, Bishop Alphonzo Lowe and Elder Stevie Lowe. She was a self-taught pianist, vocalist and seamstress and used these talents to glorify God's name. She was a member of both the Joybells and Gospel Chorus over a number of years and volunteered to be lead singer on a frequent basis. For a period of time, she served as the President of the Youth Choir and Gospel Chorus. During these years, she spent many days and nights listening to gospel songs on tape for hours on end, rewinding them over and over again, to learn the verses for her or others to sing and learn the tunes and melodies to play on the piano. A perferctionist to her core, she also took private music lessons to learn how to play chords and read music in an effort to enhance her skills in playing for the church choir. She used her sewing talents to make attire for choir members and made garments for family members and people throughout the community. As she did with other talents, she took classes at Rockingham Community College to perfect throughout the community. As she did with other talents, she took classes at Rockingham Community College to perfect her sewing skills and learn houw to make and alter patterns. she became so talented tht her garments were displayed in local stores and she was a first place winner in local fairs.

She loved to travel and visited her family all ove the world and went to church conventions and convocations whenever she could. Some of her favorite trips included Hawaii, Germany and Alaska. Prior to her transition to her heavenly home, she spoke about taking a road trip across the country with her family.

Vestine was a virtuous woman who lived her life in a manner that set an example for others to follow. Through her engagement with others, she became a constant beacon of light for them during times of darkness. She is a hero and a mentor in the eyes of her children and will always be remembered for her unwavering dedication for our wellbeing.

Those who know her as mom, sister, auntie, GG (great grandmother) and friend will alway love and forever miss her.
