Derrick Lamond Cobbs, or “Turkey” as he was known to family and friends, was born on August 7, 1973, to the late Louis Cobbs and Sharon Fountain Cobbs. After many years of distress, he succumbed to his illnesses on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Derrick attended the public schools of Martinsville Henry County. He worked various jobs until undergoing debilitating health conditions. One of his favorite pastimes was working on cars, and he was blessed to get a job as an auto mechanic at Walmart’s Auto Care Center in Martinsville, VA. Not only did Derrick love cars, but he also had a love or motorcycles, which had to be of FAST speed; the FASTER, the better. He was notorious for performing all sorts of dangerous acts on vehicles. As the saying goes, GOD watches over “FOOLS and BABIES.”
Derrick married Amanda Barker of Brosville, VA. He was the father of four children, Damion and Dre Cobbs of the home in Axton, VA; Devin Cobbs of Bassett, VA and Derrick Robertson of Rocky Mount, VA. Derrick’s greatest moments were with the LOVES of his life which were his BOYS.
In addition to his parents, Derrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Clara Fountain; paternal grandparents, Rufus and Rosa Cobbs; uncles, Kenneth Fountain, Rudy Cobbs, Chester Cobbs, Howard Cobbs, and Lee Edward Cobbs; an aunt, Elizabeth Hairston; and a cousin, Christy Reynolds.
Derrick leaves to forever cherish his memories, his sons, Devin Cobbs, Damion Cobbs, Dre Cobbs and Derrick Robertson (Arianna); his granddaughters, Ariella Robertson and Ivy Robertson; his sister, Stephanie Hairston Preston (Edward); his niece, Kayla Preston; his nephew, Trevor Preston; his aunts, Laurnell Fountain Hand (Norris), Shirley C. Martin (Johnny), Yolanda Reynolds, Minnie Reynolds and Saddie Ann Cobbs; his uncles, Albert Fountain (Karen) and Sammy Cobbs (Angie).
Memories of Derrick will also be cherished by his first cousins, Lanita Hampton (Corie), Duane Fountain (Vicki), Kerry Fountain (Felicia), Joyce Reynolds, Parthenia Reynolds, Joe Reynolds, Ike Reynolds, Eric Reynolds, Kurt Marshall, Junior Gravely, Jeff Gravely; and a host of other loving cousins, relatives and friends.
Derrick was blessed to have an ENTOURAGE of FRIENDS of which words can’t express the special relationship that he shared with each and every one of them. Whenever he needed anything they were always there for him.
