Deacon Walter Redd, Jr 94 Ridgeway, VA passed Wednesday January 15, 2025. Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Saturday January 18, 2025, at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Mayo Missionary Baptist Church 3554 Horsepasture Price Rd, Ridgeway, VA. with the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
DeaconWalter Redd, Jr. entered this world on June 4, 1931 in Henry County, VA and departed this life into eternity on January 15, 2025. He was the oldest of 4 children born to the late Walter Redd, Sr., and Lottie Sue Martin Redd.
June attended public schools in Henry County. Walter joined the United States Army on April 16, 1952 and served his country until January 19, 1954.
Walter and Lula Beatrice Watkins (Trick) were joined in matrimony on September 22, 1951 and was united for 52 years until her passing in 2003. To their union three sons were born, Wilbur, Curtis and Ronald Redd.
Walter was employed by American Furniture Company, Martin Processing and retired from Tultex Knitting Company to care for his wife, Lula.
Walter was a member of Mayo Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member serving in various ministries: the Deacon Ministry, Trustees, Sunday School teacher, church Treasury, Men’s Ministry and Heavenly Stars Chorus, President to name a few.
In 2005 Walter joined in holy matrimony to, Sallie Mae Morris, with three children to join this union –Rev. JeSie Morris (Tiffany), JaSal Morris (Sandra) and JaMese Black (Rico).
He was preceded in death by his wives; Lula Redd and Sallie Morris Redd, two brothers; Richard and Benjamin Redd and son; Wilbur Redd.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Two sons; Curtis Redd (Vivian) of Stoneville, NC, Ronald Redd (Judy) of Ridgeway, VA. Along with 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren sisters-in-law, Ganelle Redd, Lucinda Boyd and Delores Millner. Brothers-in-law; T. Nelson Thomas and Billy Watkins (Malisia).
-Walter loved fishing, hunting and travelling.
