Deacon Herman Lee Wilson, 87 of Eden, NC passed Saturday, April 27, 2024. Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. Homegoing Celebration will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, 3890 US-220 BUS, Stoneville, NC with family visitation from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m and the funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hairston Cemetery, 174 Shady Grove Rd., Eden, NC.
Deacon Herman Lee Wilson, Sr. Was born February 2, 1937 in Perryville, Louisiana. He was the son of Frankie Mae Davis and Nathaniel Wilson. His grandmother Delia Jones played a motor role in his upbringing. His uncle, Johnny Wilson was instrumental in Herman’s life following the passing of his grandmother. His parents preceded him in death.
Herman accepted Christ at an early age. In fact, he was twelve years old. He was affiliated with a number of churches; Evening Star Methodist Church in Louisiana, Bannister Hill Baptist Church in Halifax, Virginia and currently Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Stoneville, NC where he has served under the lradership of three pastors: Padtor Jacob Dillard, Pastor Reginald Kellam and currently Pastor Kenneth Moore. He has served faithfully at Sharon in a number of positions; Assistant Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, Church Treasurer, Superintendent of Sunday School, Senior Choir, Male Chorus, Education Scholarship Ministry and Pastor’s Aide Mnistry.
Herman graduated from Miles High School in Perryville as Salutatorian. He attended Grambling College.
On 1961, he married Barbara Dance. Three beautiful children were born to this union; Cordoria, Herman, Jr., and Sandra. Barbara preceded him in death.
In 1948, Herman me Clara Leona Archie when she was only five years old and he was eleven. They loved each other as children. She was the love of his life and he, the love of hers. They were united in holy matrimony on December 27, 1986. Clara brought three beautiful children to this union; Jason, Alicia and Kristin. Thus forming an awesome blended family. Herman and Clara were blessed with almost four decades of Married love. They worshipped together, enjoyed family and friends and traveled extensively througout. the world.
Herman enjoyed sports; expecially football, basketball, and bowling. He once bowled a 299. Herman affilicated with Mason Gibraltar Lodge #4 in Martinsville, Virginia. For most of his adult life, he was employed by the furniture industry. He retired from Stoneville Furniture Company in 2003 where he was Supervisor and held in high esteem.
Deacon Herman Lee Wilson, Sr. will be remembered as a wonderful man of God who was full of wisdom and always willing to help others.
Deacon Wilson was preceded in death by Beverly Habersham (sister), Nathaniel Wilson, Jr., (brother), Ronald Wilson (brother) and Jimmie Lewis (son--in-law).
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Clara, six children; Cordoria, Herman, Jr. (Carletha), Sandra Jason, Alicia (Kesha), Kiristin (Johnny, Jr.), five grandchildren; Jalund, Johnny, Jonny III, Justin, Jasmine, Madison, three siblings, Annie Pearl Simms (William), Robert Wilson and Kermmor Burrell; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Carter, III, Alicia Johnson (Gerald), Rose Daniels, Avon Duncan, Jarvis Carter and Travis Carter. He has one surviving aunt, Sue Fontenot and one surviving uncle, Wilson Wilson along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

I remember first meeting Mr. Wilson at Fayetteville State University when he visited Sandra and Herman. He was always so kind and loving, a gentle giant.
