Catherine “Cat” Moore Baker, 84 of Madison, NC passed Thursday, March 7, 2024. Public viewing will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home Madison, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Goodwill First Baptist Church , Madison NC with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Catherine Yvonne Moore Benton Baker entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. She was born on November 20, 1939 to the late John W. Moore, Sr. and Bernice O. Moore in Whitby, WV.
Catherine attended the former Charles Drew School and Rockingham County Secretarial College. She later was employed as a Laboratory Technician by MacField Texturing and took an early retirement from Unifi, Inc. “Cat” was a good and faithful servant blessing the lives of many at First Goodwill Baptist Church, Madison, NC. During her mighty work on committees such and the Nurses Board, Senior Choir, church secretary and the Missionary Circle, to name a few.
In July of 1957 she was united in marriage to the late Wesley “Bill” Benton and to this union two children were born, Annethea Renee Benton Mauney and Timothy Wendell Benton. In September 1979, she married the late James Eugene Baker and from their union, Philoma Feucia Benton-Williams was born.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Drema Gail Benton and brother, Pringle Andrew Moore.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved children; Renee (Linnard) of Virginia Beach, VA, Tim “Tookie” and Philoma of Madison, NC. Stepson; Dann Franklin (Teresa) of Newark, DE and a special nephew-son; Dewayne Benton (Sonja) of Ft. Worth, TX. Three brothers; John Moore, Jr., Leon Moore (Mary) both of Madison, NC, Clifton Moore (Linda) of Eden, NC, two sisters-in-laws; Edith Moore and Molly Pennix. Five grandchildren; Reginald Coefield, Jr., Talia Alls, Chambray Benton and Rashaad Benton all of Virginia Beach, VA; Delisa Williams of Charlotte, NC along with ten great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
