Mrs. Carleen Marie “Luv” Gravely Cabbell, daughter of the late Coy Gravely and Pattie Ray Gravely was born June 6, 1927, in Leaksville (Eden), North Carolina. She was raised in the Blue Creek Community surrounded by family and friends.
Carleen’s formative years were spent traveling by train between North Carolina and Keystone, West Virginia. As a young woman she worked at Hatley’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning as well as using her skills as a cook in the private homes of well-known families of the area.
Carleen moved back to West Virginia in 1936 and later married her own coal miner, Samuel Edward Cabbell. A dedicated mother first and foremost; she and her husband raised their four children with love and devotion.
Carleen confessed Jesus Christ in her twenties and was baptized in the Methodist Church of Keystone, West Virginia. When the great flood hit Keystone (Wyoming County) on July 8, 200; after many times of her daughter Paula asking to move to North Carolina she knew this was the time.
Carleen joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church on April 7, 2002 under Christian experience and became an active member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry and the Senior/Sanctuary Choir. Carleen loved to “love on” people and because of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life has as beautiful and stylish as the clothes that she loved and gave away to others.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Edward Cabbell, as well as her children; Michael Cabbell, Ricky Cabbell and Paula Cabbell Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Thelma Sonnier (Sherman) of Conroe, TX, sister, Addie Gravely of Eden, NC. Five nieces, four nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
