Vivian Marie Clark Bussey was born to the late Norman and the late Bernice Clark December 3,
1935 in Lynchburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents and only child, Reginald
Wendell Bussey. Vivian departed this life on November 1, 2023 at Friends Home.
She graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1954. While at Dudley, she was a member
of the Marching Band and played the clarinet for four years. Vivian was also a girl scout in high
school and received the Curved Bar award, which was the highest badge of honor from 1940-
1963. After high school, she received her cosmetology license in 1964 from Maco Beauty School in Greensboro, NC. The school operated from 1935-1969. She worked in the cosmetology field
for five years. Vivian was also a member of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church for over 50 years. She joined the church when it was located
on Walker Ave under the leadership of Rev. Moore. Vivian served on the Mother’s Board for five years in the 1970s under the leadership of Rev Moore and later Rev. Fogle. She served on the Founder's Day committee and the church newspaper staff under Rev. Fogle. Vivian was also a member of the Missionary Ministry and a faithful Sunday School member
under Pastor Fisher until declining health prevented her from doing so.
Vivian worked at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) as a housekeeper for
Chancellors William Moran (Barbara) and the late Patricia Sullivan (Charles). She retired from the university in 2007 after 25 years of service.
She leaves to cherish her memories, brother, Norman Clark (Veronique) of San Antonio, TX; sister, Mildred Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; special niece, Cynthia Lockley (DeVonne) of Altavista, VA; special cousins , Dr. Melvin McLean, Jr. (Allison), Austyn and Kennedy Mclean of Burlington, NC ; Jessie Alston of Greensboro, NC; goddaughters, Dianne Williams Milton (Gary) and Deloris Davis of Greensboro, NC; special friends, Mary Banks and Dianna Rogers of
Greensboro, NC and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service to honor her life will be on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11am, at Saint Paul Baptist Church, 1309 Larkin Street, Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery 3600 N. O' Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC.
